This story (and some others) positions him as a possible target for Boro: The American-born 24-year-old still has two years on his current deal but is also being watched by several clubs after reaching double figures in the goals scored column. https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport...players-linked-middlesbrough-january-18132060
That'd be cool. I remember watching their run to the UEFA cup final in 2006. Mark Schwarzer and the club were synonymous for years. Bit of nostalgia for mid-2000 s EPL action. The Guzan stint was a bit of a debacle but he was really trending down hard at that time.
Well, Boro is expected to be fighting relegation once soccer resumes (they were two points above the red line with 9 games to go), so if things go awry they'd already have someone who knows the League One well.
If they're looking for an offensive spark, Gooch probably ain't it. He's taken a few years to make himself at Sunderland and has found his first real good vein of goalscoring in his career. He changes up scenes, especially for a struggling side, is probably not the best choice for his game right now. His pocketbook and perhaps he'd think his career...perhaps.
Yeesh, there's missing the target and then there's landing in another galaxy, looks like everything I predicted here was way, way off lol. How're things bigsoccer? Recently started a new (old) save on FM2007 as the US National Team manager and thought about this forum. Giuseppe Rossi can't stop banging in the goals for me, makes you wonder what could have been eh?
Yes he has hit double figures this season, but that original post is from January 2019 (15 months ago), Gooch subsequently lost form and didn't score in any of the remaining 22 league games the club had left in that regular season.
On June 9th, the League One clubs voted to end the season with promotion, the spots in the promotion playoffs, and relegation based on points per game. Sunderland thus finish the 2019 - 2020 League One season in 8th at 1.64 points per game which is .07 points per game off of 6th and the last promotion playoff spot. Gooch registered 10 goals, 2 assists, and 6 yellow cards in 2,298 minutes (30 appearances including 28 starts) during the 2019/2020 League One campaign. He also played 180 minutes (2 starts) in the League Cup. Sunderland were eliminated in the 4th Round (the round of 16). Finally, Gooch also made an 8 minute substitute appearance in the EFL Trophy. Sunderland finished in 3rd in the Northern Section Group A and did not advance.
