In a terrible officiated game being played on what looks like a fourth division pitch, Muriel blew a late potential game winning penalty. Total disaster. In fairness, no one seemed able to control the ball well on this pitch today but LFM who came on for Duvan in the second half had earned a huge penalty in the box...and then kicked a weak pk. Inter mathematically wins the league and Atalanta now tied with AC Milan on points just edging second place on goal difference.
Not a good game to drop 2 points. Between an early red cArd from Atalanta, missed penalty by Muriel - I guess it can be viewed as a moral victory that they drew today.
Don't think it's a moral victory. They were ALL OVER Sassuolo early and the ref let Sassuolo get away with murder early with some really nasty fouls on Duvan and Malina. Then the red card on Gollina changed the game...and still Atalanta dominated but the finishing in the area was awful because the pitch was terrible (both sides snatched at chances). Gosens with a sheer effort and power goal was minimum they deserved. In second half both teams had goals waved off for tight offsides calls (one a great goal for Duvan that got waved for action earlier in the play). Finally Muriel made a great play to earn the pen... And it was a terrible penalty with so many impacts. Disaster result. I'm shocked by the caliber of the pitch in a Seria A match though, esp as Atalanta played matches there in the past when their stadium was bring renovated. The commentators were saying it's full synthetic, but then I am confused why it was esp bad today? Players could have gotten hurt, I hadn't really seen that in a top European league before.
Just added another! 5-2 Atalanta! This one was a tap in but they all count. Atalanta climb back to second in table with Juve and Milan left to play (hopefully they tie!)
Only Cristiano Ronaldo (27) has scored more Serie A goals than Luis Muriel this season (21).The Colombian is averaging a goal every 63 minutes. 👀 pic.twitter.com/Mh0tDe6oPE— Squawka (@Squawka) May 9, 2021
If this were NBA Jams (remember that video game?) Muriel would be on [emoji91][emoji91][emoji91] 1392557527553003520 is not a valid tweet id
Malina has really filled the void left by Papu Gomez. He is scoring for fun and creating tons of opps.
Hope he scores like this against Peru and Argentina. Until then his goals are meaningless to me as CrrzD says.
Muriel just looks like he's having so much fun out there, hope he never leaves Atalanta. Looks like they're gonna secure UCL again for next season.
Today's result could be big. They are up 3 over the fifth place team so as long as they hold today and win vs. Genoa in next fixture it takes pressure off the last match day when they play Milan.

I saw a stat the other day that Muriel had the highest goal/assist contribution per minute of anyone in the top 5 European leagues, obviously its a bit skewed in his favor because everyone else is almost exclusively a starter but still. And Rueda didn't bring him off the bench in a few games and brought on guys like Chara.
rueda didnt give a shit of chances to muriel.....and actually we didnt lose agasint argentina because muriel. completely unfair
Muriel has one of the worse goals per minutes for Colombia in his whole career though. (Just joking.)
