He's a wide forward, Mane played as a 9 to accommodate Luis a lot last season and besides that Mane and Luis are very different styles of player. Luis can play as a pure winger and for Liverpool he often sits wide to stretch the defense and pulls defenders out to go 1v1 which opens up space which hugely benefits the team. Probably why Klopp picked up Nunez too, opening that space allows a lot of advantages for a 9. Luis also comes inside but the chances he gets and creates are late runs capitalizing on an overload on the other side or when he starts in the half space and just beats his man around the edge of the box and scores highlight real goals.

Mane didn't park wide and beat players like Luis, he was always running direct into the box to get chances and didn't have the same creative 1v1 characteristics of a Luis. Luis can and will get more goals, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the team play really well and his output is lower then Mane's as the shape of the team has changed with Luis which is a compliment to his influence and versatility. With Firminho I think Luis gets more goals because he'll drop as a false 9 allowing Luis more direct runs, with Nunez who eventually will be the nailed on starter over the next years I think Luis is more likely to stay wide more often and allow Salah and Nunez to profit off of his creativity from wide areas. All in all I don't worry about it, every game Luis is working his ass off, pressing, defending and creating and often that is more important as others can score goals but the overall team work is what's most important in Klopp's set up.

Diaz started and played deep into 2H today in Liverpool's tie to open the season.

He was Liverpool's best player in the first half and had a goal denied because another player had been offside in the build up and also had a beautiful move and shot go just off the right post.

I've seen a lot of awful takes from Colombian fans (what is with these people hating on their own?) who I don't think watched the game because he ran himself knackered and played well and came off for a fresh man.

You must not have watched the last Copa America!

The only game he phoned in for Colombia was the day before his medical for Liverpool...

    Just awful timing.

He was Liverpool's best player in the 1H and forced a decent save from Degea. Certainly not at fault for the result...

The nonsense from self hating Colombian fans on Twitter with Lucho is absolutely bizarre. Embarrassing.

Haha season over for them. Winning could had them recover from the two ties especially with the Man city tie…….

let’s see who they panic buy

Don't think they panic. If you watched today, they easily could have won or tied:

    - Several clearances off the line where United defenders didn't even realize the ball was coming at them...
    - United's second goal getting validated by Car was shocking... I've seen goals called back for less.
    - Lisandro armpitted a ball that 9/10 would have been a penalty if not for extreme luck that the angle just went under his extended arm...

United (and De Gea especially) was coming off of two humiliating performances and wanted this so bad.

Klopp can't play VVD and Gomez in center together, last time they lost 7-2 to Villa!

Just adding to my earlier comment on Lucho - the Varane tackle was ridiculous. Like WWE.

Opposing teams - esp those with nothing left to lose - are just going to kick the ever living daylights out of him this season...

    Not a hater at all

He’s a fabulous player , perfectly suited to Liverpool BUT there is no way that he scores 20+ each season to replace Mane’s goals .. and that’s hurting Liverpool
