We don't have our DP slot available. It's being used on Luis Angel Landin.

    Does that help any?

He's our designated player, full stop.

    no, no, no, no people!

no way AEG/Canetti/Oscar was going to pay a couple of MILLION for Houston to get a DP salary-wise. we had no chance of getting Henry. we had no chance of getting a conventional DP.

even with the transfer fee which i'm convince someone else is paying Landin is barely costing us $400,000. remember the threshold for DP is $400,000. there's a big difference between $400,000 and $4,000,000!!!

Re: Luis Angel Landin Player Thread

    He is a DP.
He has to produce like a DP (Blanco, Angel, Schelotto, Ljungberg, etc).

It doesn't matter if we're paying him $12k or $5 million, the reason the DP was used was because the cost to the Dynamo was a DP level cost.

Re: Luis Angel Landin Player Thread

Rey, you need to step back and think about this.

Why would Landin be classified as a DP if his salary + transfer fee was not at least $400K?

If you can give a single good reason for that (and the only reason I can think of is that there is someone making decisions in the Dynamo front office that either thinks calling him a DP will generate hype OR there is someone in the Dynamo front office making decisions that has less than 2 brain cells) then produce it.

Common sense tells us that a DP is a player whose cost (salary + transfer fee) is higher than MLS Maximum salary. If you can't agree to that then I'm thinking that we would have to start by having a discussion of English Grammatical constructions, dictionary definitions and so forth because it would just be nonsensical.

For instance, in your view here the Dynamo Front Office is so mentally challenged that they are paying $150k a year for Landin but allowing MLS to charge them $400k a year as the salary cap hit. Think it through man...or do you think the front office is really run by the local middle school special ed class?

I think when they lost that first match off an own goal with time expiring-that was mark of things to come. The ghost of Caricola is alive and well.

Just think about that-the guy is an original Metro hero and he used to smoke and talk on his phone DURING training. Great player-but the work ethic has never been with that organization, no matter who owns it.

Yeah, because Dom was just itching to use his DP and if he hadn't signed Landin, we could have had Blanco, Beckham or some other badass player instead.

I think you completely missed the point that *rey* was trying to make but I'll let him explain it himself.

Re: Luis Angel Landin Player Thread

The bottom line is that at least for 2009 & probably 2010, Landin costs $400K against our salary cap as a DP. OR STATED DIFFERENTLY, his cap charge (NFL term) is $400K.

I'm not going to get into the actual cash cost to AEG, transfer fee sharing, rights to sell, etc.

But at $400K, he takes up about 12-15% of our adjusted salary cap (figure $2.7M plus allocation dollars, GA salaries, etc.). So we need some real production out of him because of the cap space he occupies. Just like Ching & Rico need to produce.

I noticed Landin runs like Blanco and is built like him too. The only problem with that is he's 24 YO, not 36.

But he definitely doesn't play like him. When Blanco was 24 he was actually quite different looking. He was actually pretty thin.

thanx for that link.it is good to see what LAL has to say about his play and our league.

Im hoping that the playoffs will be the place he bursts onto the MLS scene.

He is obviously very skilled and has a great shot on goal.

Over the past three years I have noticed that usually our team explodes after a seven or eight game slump.Scoring three against Chivas USA may be the beginning of something good.

My only concern is the speed of Zakuani on the wing.I do not want to see another defensive debacle this year like NYRB put on us last season.

I dont think the Dom will allow that this year tho.

I hope LAL will score the winning goal and does his 360 degree flip..I have faith in him..Pachuca selected him as they saw he has the killer instinct. LAL has good leg work and a smart player and once he get the " click" with the rest of the Dynamo players, he can get some goals ..
All - have faith in him ..

He was slow as a turtle last night. The commentators kept talking about his "fitness." There were a lot of people who got all over me for opening this thread up saying he was just "big." He is unbelievably out of shape for the whole world to see. I cannot believe Dom actually played him. Wonder if he can get in shape in 1 1/2 weeks? :)

I hope the FO and Dom are thinking about their options next year. I hope there is a clause in his contract about "fitness."

OMG i am dying to know who created the STH Brian incarnation here on BS.

-im pretty sure its not the "real" brian.
-he/she is spot on on grammar, punctuation..etc.
-he/she has made recent post at 5am.

my money is on offebacher or brahma (brahma likes to post at 5:30ish every morning.. except for today..hmmm)

... if i was a betting man (and i am:p) i would have to put it on brahma... i dunno, but this investigation deserves its own thread... :D

    Correct post should have been:

I wanted to see Landin succeed, but I am convinced that Landin will NOT be back in 2010. Sorry.

I must have "wasted away again in Margaritaville" too much last night.
