Since we are all bitter ... I thought I'd throw this one out to the lions: Wegerle, Roy Regular Season GP GS MIN G A PTS 1996 Colorado 22 16 1,458 2 6 10 1997 Colorado 14 13 993 2 1 5 D.C. Too easy. Personally anyone that thought they were better than MLS but then SUCKED ... gets a hate from me!
I wouldn't go as far as saying love, but when Wegerle played for us he was a great player. He had some good skill in his hey day.
Thanks for voting ... but this here is about his time with the Rapids! The guy was suppose to be our cornerstone allocated player along with Tritt and Balboa and that English GK that had a knee like a jigsaw puzzel.
Indifferent about his tenure with the Rapidz, but boy, he was one heck of a TV personality on that old ESPN weekly show, eh? ;-)
Wegerle was a great, great player. It's just that by the time he reached MLS he was past his sell-by date. In the early 90s he was a phenom.
Wegs enjoyed a bit more success when he left the Rapids... remember the crap that he was surrounded by in 1996 here in Denver...
While true ... he was quick to denounce MLS in his early days. While he certainly was right about the quality of play being pretty low back then ... he never struck me as one that really stood out amoung crappy play.
