Does anyone have any details about this team? When does it actually get underway as a team? Is the U-23 team still a thing? Maybe a few guys will just come over from that team? Also, Academy players can play with the team without losing NCAA eligibility, right? I know the stadium is moving forward, but haven't heard much about the team... Thanks in advance for any info anyone has. Here's a recent article about the team: https://www.prosoccerusa.com/mls/dc-united/d-c-united-announces-new-usl-affiliate-loudoun-county-fc/
They are starting in 2019 (allegedly). I follow them on Twitter, but nothing more than family pics of the new GM. He appears to be about 16. There is work to be done. My guess is the stadium is mostly prefab, but it's still a pretty aggressive timeline.
I drove past the site yesterday and there is no signage yet. I still don't think they have official county approval, outside of the MoA, at least I haven't seen it mentioned in the local papers.
I never understood why DC United didn't negotiate to use one or more of the Soccerplex's 23 (?) fields and its indoor fields as a training site. Doesn't the Spirit do this?
I've chatted with Adam about the club and he seems pretty cool! It'll be great to have somebody accessible/visible who enjoys getting involved in community events himself
Damn, I didn't even notice that nonsense - I usually like to be the first to point out that Loudon is in New Hampshire
If I remember the lore correctly from when I lived in Gaithersburg, John Hendricks of Discovery Communications and his wife put money toward the project due to involvement in youth soccer. The idea was to have a location to host the major youth tournaments that were in the DC metro area. I thought there was initially a prohibition on professional groups using it due to concerns over traffic, etc. However, of course, there is a history of the U.S. Open Cup and women's professional teams playing there. Maybe the practice changed after Hendricks invested in WUSA and then WPS (?) Edit: I think they give preference to Montgomery County youth, but in order to make the facility financially viable have opened it up to other entities.
I was on a bus that went into the attached park-n-ride this morning and still didn't see any signs or hints of construction. There's plenty of other construction in the area. I would be happy to help bulldoze a nice 120x85 flat spot
https://loudounnow.com/2018/09/12/supervisors-approve-bolen-park-stadium/ the project it's a approved!
I get the feeling someone's going to be even harder to find during work (big assumption) hours once the dump trucks show up on the scene
The irony of your repeated jabs at someone who spent plenty of time giving us updates on the stadium, miles ahead of anything team produced, while you sit here and post irrelevant ramblings not related to DC United 99% of the time.
I wonder what residential changes will be made once the team office and the practice facility open. I know Benny and Birnbaum live in the District, but I don't know about the others. Many/most may live in No. Va., in which case Loudoun won't be that hard a commute. But I know Benny loves DC and will be loathe to give it up, even for convenience. And where will Rooney settle? Will he be a city boy like Ben and Birnbaum, or a country squire in rural NoVa?
I know alot of players have held off on long term leases due to this. My assumption is most will move out there, but prices will sky rocket quick with Amazon is confirmed soon. I hope the team supplies a bus from there to Audi, or the club stays in a hotel near Audi the night before.
