outstanding result!! I will take that any day...well done boys...now time pick themselves up for Saturday. Goodnight everyone!! -Richard
Los Angeles - San Jose (Wednesday, 6/18) during-game/postgame thread [R] ] mlsnet says 1-1 102min. F@#$ martha stewart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And that's the full-time score. Quakes should be pleased to get a point out of this. Four points out of six, in a matter of days, nothing to sneeze at, all things considered... Thanks for your indulgence over there, everyone, and have a pleasant evening.
LA was missing some key guys, too, but the Quakes really took it to 'em in the second half! Sounded like Russell had his way on the right side, and the insertion of Ekelund allowed them to play some nice possession soccer. Though not tested as much later, Onstad kept the Quakes in the game with some key first-half saves. Especially given the injury situation, four points in three road games is a very good result. After the 4-1 home loss to the Fire, I thought we'd lose all three.
Los Angeles - San Jose (Wednesday, 6/18) during-game/postgame thread [R] Gotta take the 1-1 result all things considered. Ronnie seemed to really settle down the team when he came in, as we were able to hold possession easier. Corrales sounded like he was still feeling the effect of the ankle, when Ronnie can go a full 90 I think he could really use the rest. Manny also sounds like hes really struggling with playing forward. Sounded as if the threat level on the Quakes attack went up when Walker came in. Ching of course is the best option, seemed to recall hearing in the broadcast that he was a week away or so. Hopefully we keep collecting points until we can get Ekelund, Ching and Dayak fully back, and are able to rest some of the guys carrying nicks so they can get 100%. Really all things considered a result we have to take. Really enjoyed hearing Schrader and Doyle on the webcast. Go Earthquakes!
Los Angeles - San Jose (Wednesday, 6/18) during-game/postgame thread [R] Great job, Quakes!!! A draw on the road in a VERY tough place to play, with injuries galore, a rookie-studded lineup AND on only 3 days' rest--outstanding! I agree that 4 points off of this very difficult road trip (and one of the longest they'll face) is a terrific outcome. Say it again.....ALL HAIL FRANK YALLOP! A great team reflecting a remarkable coach. We are very lucky to have him. I should have joined the rest of you with the webcast. I listened on radio and, in the 98th minute with LA setting up for a corner, the broadcast suddenly went off the air. After a long pause, a talk show replaced the game. It seemed the most elaborate of practical jokes but it wasn't. Thank the soccer gods that nothing happened in that next few minutes to change a good result. WELCOME HOME, QUAKES! JOB WELL DONE!!
according to MLSnet.com, their man of the match is Todd Dunivant. somehow, i'm not surprised. the kid's a stud. big time.
Final score:            1        1       Read the recap of the game here.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
The San Jose Earthquakes (with all of the injuries and such) is the first visiting team in history to grab a point from The Toolbox.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Back from Rickey's in San Leandro. My MOTM was Mulrooney, he put Russell through on the goal and was (hyper)active all night. With Corrales playing like he'd OD'ed on pain-killers, Richard had a lot to do and he did it for 100 minutes. Dunivant was very classy with the ball. Getting more confident with every game. On the other hand he got burned a couple times by Cobi and Ezra. Onstad had an excellent game. Can't be faulted for the goal. We didn't have a man on the far post on the corner kick and the ball was tucked right into the corner. The goal was a slam dunk, Russell was sent in free on the right and he and Walker 2-on-1'd the keeper in the six. A great cap for a very challenging road trip.
Did any Quakes fans make it down to LA for this match? I was there tonight and didn't see any obvious Quakes supporters in evidence.
I know of a few who individually made the trek down there, but none of the Quakes supporters groups could make it down there en masse for this strangely-scheduled midweek match (since everyone needs to go to work the next day).       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
That's what I suspected but it's still a shame. The San Jose games are just about the only games of the year that LA could have a substantial enemy presence in the stands and they had to schedule it on a Wednesday. Not too smart. Nonetheless, I was glad you folks beat LA tonight.
The Walking Wounded do it again. Cheers to our coaching staff. Yes, there should have been a guy covering the right post. The Fish needs to be canned. What a flopping, whining, play-acting, diving little creep. Ready the cannery's machines for next time. The referee? Well what can you say about Homer Jerkenheimer? I can't wait until I see this guy again. The last time we gave him the blind and deaf treatment and that's something he deserves. Next time will be a repeat. Yes, Manuel should not be up at forward. But what can you do? All of the guys were contributing 100 percent, though. I really believe that the Quakes were keeping the pace slower and the pressure down in the first half to make LA run their asses off first. Or am I imagining that this was planned strategy? When everything is said and done, this is the best team in MLS. Good night , folks.
No, not certain on that. May very well have been Mullan. Mullan had an active game, given that he recieved little service.
Here is the report from QuakeMagic http://quakemagic.matchnight.com/qmdefault.cfm?page=ARTICLE&show=231 BTW, it was Mullan feeding Russell to set up the goal. Regards, Jeff
There was a small group of Quakes fans in what I think is the northwest corner (the corner completely opposite the Riot Squad). On HDNet the Club Quake banner was visible from a distance a couple of times but they didn't show any close-up shots.
Club Quake WAS in the northwest corner and was very visible. Don't know why Knave couldn't see them - but then he thought SJ won the game too, so perhaps his powers of observation were impaired... I won't post again what I said in the thread on our boards, but with you being the walking wounded and LAG missing 5 starters with injuries, call-ups and the suspension of Mauricio, it just didn't seem that this game was as intense as the usual LA-SJ matchup. Did anyone else get that impression?
Richard, I'm with you! Pick up a point on the road at Home Depot with a depleted group . . . and a goal from SCU Alumni Jamil Walker. I'll take that as well. Beat Columbus!
Radio Broadcast Well I really enjoyed John Schrader (sp?) and put up with John Doyle. Was it just me here in Daly City or did KNEW cut away from the game when it was in overtime??!! Get a clue KNEW! Even though I would of liked to see the game on TV, it was pretty fun to listen to the action as well. Did anyone else have any opinions on the radio broadcast?
Yeah John, I agree on the radio broadcast. Schrader did a great job. It's funny to listen to a TV broadcast on the radio, but you really got a feel for what's going on, if not the details. Poor Doyle. It's just not his calling. And I was also flummoxed* at the engineering screw-up by KNEW. . . *to leave somebody confused or perplexed and unable to react.
