It was a good size group. At least 100. I think the rows had 15 people across and we had the first 7-8 rows so that's 120? Maybe it was more. The HDC has stupid policies regarding banners. The Ultras banner was draped over the wall (just like the Galaxians banner and the Riot Squad banner) but in the second half some security dolts came by to tell them they couldn't have it draped over the wall, they could only hold on to it. Same thing happened with an Irish flag that one of the Quakes supporters brought.
You guys are being too harsh about Waibel. Just last week people were praising his efforts in our scoreless draw at Denver. It's as if with our 14-win, 7-loss, 8-draw record, certain guys are responsible for all or our losses and draws. The fact of the matter is that Waibel, in spite of his perceived shortcomings, has been an excellent addition to this club. Is it his fault we haven't scored a goal in our last 4 matches?
Bottom line is the Quakes have scored NO, ZERO, NIL, goals in their last 3 MLS matches and have looked very anemic in the attack in all 3. Lurking made a good point about the difference Ching made, 29 pts in 14 games with him and 21 points in 15 games without. The Quakes have been unable to replace him. Isn't anyone else worried that this looks like last year all over again? Once again, San Jose is playing their worst soccer at the end of the season. Last year should have taught them that you can't just turn it back on. I am very, very worried that we will be out in the first round. If we don't gain at least a tie in LA in game one of the playoffs, given our scoring futility, I am afraid it will be another quick and disappointing exit from the postseason.
Well... exactly. Our problem isn't Waibel or Roner, our problem is that we go for long stretches without creating real problems for defenses. At least in the LA game, we put the opponent on its heels for most of the first half. Until we lost Waibel, we actually played pretty well up and down the field. But someone needs to step up and score... possibly Corrales, Mulroony or Ekelund. I left out Donovan and DeRosario because they're too easy to neutralize simply by packing the area -- if they don't dribble through or otherwise get beyond the penalty spot, chances are they're not going to score. (I know there are exceptions to this, but generally they're not going to beat you from distance.)
I agree, Ching was much needed on Saturday night. We are really missing him right about now. UGH, let's just hope he has a fast recovery and is able to play in the season opener next yr.
Sat.s game against LA was kind of funny to watch. It was also kind of sad. We had plenty of opportunities, but lady luck just wasn't on our side... Some calls that the refs made (or not) were very unjustifiable. Well, you win some you loose some. I'm not going to this saturdays game because I'm in love with Craig and he isn't playing. HAHA JUST KIDDING! I don't love him..or anyone player for that matter....I heart them, but not love. There is a difference. I wasn't kidding about not showing up though. I've been debating over 5 different things to do on Sat. the 25th of October. I finally choose to just go to a concert because it's a line-up that is unforgetable and well, I got a free ticket and am going to be front row (or somewhere near there)... hopefully they play well....hopefully a lot of other people show up...hopefully they win....hopefully Ruiz doesn't score because I hate seeing him take his shirt off... even though I won't be there...but still...bllllaaaaahhhh... ------ Does anyone else think that Faria looks like Donovan.....? Just a thought...
Re: Re: Los Angeles - San Jose (Saturday, 10/18) postgame thread [R] This is so true. I honestly believe Brandy Chastain could intimidate DeRo off the ball with a look and on the off chance that failed, she'd just muscle him off no problem. -KMJvet
I don't know. I think the score rather flattered LA. There was a handball in the box by LA that should have been a PK for the Quakes. Instead it bounces out off the hand and results in a fastbreak goal against the Quakes. That's a 2 goal swing from 2-1 to 3-nil in the span of single play. And that wasn't the only handball in the box missed by Kinney or Kennedy or whoever that was. In terms of Waibel's red card, I'd be okay with it except it wasn't very consistant with the refs other calls. He was really letting a lot go. I think it's great for linesmen to make calls, but I think they need to be consistent with how the ref has called the game to that point? -KMJvet
Re: Re: Re: Los Angeles - San Jose (Saturday, 10/18) postgame thread [R] Maybe you should try and hire her. I hear she's out of work at the moment. And, she's always wanted to be a San Jose Earthquake.
