Bouda deserved it more, but Timo sells tickets (I guess?) -- it wasn't his best game, for sure. I expect we'll see Bouda named to team of the week so that may make up for it.
Not only that, but this year’s San Jose Earthquakes are only the second MLS team ever in the post-shootout era to win its first four road games of the season (the first being the 2022 New York Red Bulls). GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Fotmob named him player of the match with a score of 8.9, whereas Timo got a mere 8.5. Porteous was a 4.0. Anyone sorry that Jebo wasn't playing for us?
Maybe Niko's best game as a Quake? In the Spanish broadcast, Diego Valeri kept talking about him and said he was the best player on the field.
Arena has them playing beautifully.. I can’t believe he is doing it with a bunch of scrubs , draft picks and/or domestic players + Timo. When you line up LAFC’s roster with ours, there is really no comparison and Quakes dominated them today! This run is pretty incredible.
Against SKC there were many incomplete passes. Much less of that against LAFC. I suspect Bruce made a point of it.
Pretty sure I've died and gone to "Quakes Fan Heaven". The Quakes keep winning and just pasted the LA-based league darlings 4-1 in their house. I don't know if you're gonna get this post - not sure how the whole wifi thing works from here to mortal life, but it's been nice knowing you all, and hey, it's pretty great here.
I second this. Unsung hero, but not unsung to people paying attention. Beau set up both of the 1st 2 goals with tackles in the midfield, and on the 1st one he tackled it and then progressed into the final 3rd before distributing to Timo. And even on the *3rd goal* he played a back heel to free Niko. People are gonna talk about Timo and Bouda, and rightfully so, but Beau's winning the ball in midfield was the key to the 1st 2 goals, and his pass helped ignite the 3rd. Other comments: - The announcers were fallling all over themselves trying to explain why SJ is not the best team in the conference. Well, even though SJ just beat them 4-1 in their house, we still think it's LAFC! Or, yeah, we still think it's Vancouver! Well, the Quakes beat Vancouver in their house too. I mean you can change your assessment as the season runs on, but right now the Quakes have proven to be the west's best team if not the best team in the league, if you're gonna be fair and look at it objectively. - We got Bouanga so frustrated. At one point as he lost a ball out of bounds (or it was knocked out by the defender defending him), sounded like he yelled something in French (probably lots of profanities), and then one of the plays he got stuffed on the wing, he went over the endline and wrang his arms up and down in frustration. - Bouda hits the ball as hard as anyone. Both of his goals were near post and Lloris had it covered but he just couldn't deal with the pace. That might as well be his MO, just whack it as hard as you can and see what happens. - Bummer about Ricketts. He seemed upset. Probably reinjured something and is gonna be out for a bit. Hopefully not a hammy.
I can hear the Ultras from my screen loud and clear. We are from the Bay and we....LA. We are San Jose.
Sabres won an epic comeback in their first playoff game in 15 years and Cardinals swept Houston for 5th straight. Quakes stomping LAFC in their outhouse is sort of ho hum on this fantastic day. ‘Cause I expected no less.
Jebo? You mean LAFC's #17 jogging around pointing at where he wanted the ball but he himself never got there. Oh, I'd better not speak morel. Someone will start telling us how Jebo always come back to the midfield to "make plays".
Speaking for myself, I have criticized Jebo's finishing many, many times over the years and I was happy to see him on the field for LAFC for that reason. And that was an incredibly weak shot when he was, what 8 yards from goal unmarked? But it's also true that he's a good combining forward. That doesn't mean I want him on the team, that just means he's a good combining forward. Sometimes two things can both be true. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As someone who's coached a lot of kids' teams, I never liked having a star on the team. What I saw today: a lot of effort to engage Bouanga and Son in every key play. Neither one was having a great game, they kept trying the same plays over and over, and without the stars leading the charge, the rest of the team didn't seem to know what to do. (Except for Shaffelburg, but he wasn't going to win all by himself.) Our guys played as a real team, which is what made the game so much fun to watch and of course contributed to the lopsided results.
Benji did a great job against Bouanga, and I think Bouda and even Fernandez also stuffed him on the wing. He was so frustrated. Sonny just wasn't much of a factor except for that great volley he hit that Daniel made a great save on. And David Martinez was even worse.
Wasn't like that on the Spanish broadcast. Diego Valeri was very positive about SJ and repeatedly made the point about how much less SJ has invested compared to LAFC.
I went to YouTube to hatewatch some LAFC content and wow, there are a LOT of Korean-language videos covering the team and plenty of Korean comments under every LAFC-related video in English. I thought the fans would have given up on Son's career after he left Europe...
The 1st question to Timo in the postgame was basically "why did you sign for SJ?" and he answered that good weather and living in California was his 1st priority, and the 2nd reason was that he found Bruce (who flew over to Germany to make the pitch) to be a compelling figure to play for. I guess not all the chips are stacked against us!
