The fact that you think he is the same as he ever was against all evidence of what has been happening with the club only tells me youre as blind as he is. Trump in the 90s also wasnt the same as Trump today btw. The authoritarian personality gets activated through long term exposure and concentration of power. Florentino used to be a shrewd guy who lived under the principle of bet big, get big returns. Now hes ruled by fear, which makes him unhinged and seeing witches around him.
🚨 BREAKING: Florentino Pérez will have an interview with Josep Pedrerol TODAY at 21:00. pic.twitter.com/hgBTyDM8uk— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) May 13, 2026 Somebody take away the mic please
The guy built a gigantic tin can in the middle of one of the biggest cities in Europe. The only small and ruled by fear thing is your little mind and view of things. You just have an issue coming to grips with the fact that you are happy with this president when the result are good enough. I think this was exactly what was going on even while the club was winning.
One of the rare times I have to wholly disagree with you @Ssr9 -- you had it exactly right at the beginning of your post. This press conference runs exactly parallel with the Biden debate moment -- he is deteriorating outside public view for most people (i.e. people like @4x4s not included), but this press conference put on full blast that he has gone senile. I'm just glad that although he may not have gone as far as resigning, he called for (i.e. "will allow") someone to take the office from him years before he had to, if they can find the funding.
No doubt his public image is melting, but if you would have done your homework, you know it's not "uncle Flo", moreso a man that walks over bodies if he has to. Some guy with Nutella stains on his shirt thinking he knows better while he crushes it on every level other than the footie foot
That's how the world works. If you fail at performing and achieving your targets you will be swiftly dispensed for someone who will. Your past glories buy you sentiment, not immunity. Now, I revere Florentino but he and the men around him need to do far better. Right now, he's making excuses instead of self-reflection, blaming imaginary evil powers out to get him and his "children", he's drifting into nostalgia and is visibly hysterical at the prospect of an opponent (and Riquelme is shit one at that) challenging his regime. What's even more troubling is that Perez and JAS have no clear strategy on the way forward. And no, Mourinho is not forward. At the moment he's no better than that village idiot signaling 15 UCLs and calling racism while the team gets dragged face-first through the mud and LaLiga is surrendered away without a fight.
We were winning because he was of sound mind, and now we are not winning because he changed. How this simple causality is lost on you, the very person who constantly complains about how this club is run of late, its just mind boggling.
That was a shocker. I don't know, in my eyes two people who really love and built/rebuilt clubs to a great level have always been Perez and Roman at Chelsea. Of course, Perez is selfish and image conscious so there is the element of selfishness but I am not sure the next guy will have as much power and influence as FP. Maybe shocker from the Calderon era but is it worthwhile to see what the summer and next season holds before having a go at him? Maybe I am being optimistic but I took this presser as a warning that Madrid will bounce back more than ever. He Maybe just wanted to blow off some steam and speak his mind.
Florentino wears a tin foil and talks about a media conspiracy against him and Real Madrid… …and the very next day he's happily engaging with the same clown behind the sleazy program that's fuelled some of the club's biggest media fires and internal turmoil in recent years (e.g. vs Junior, Bale and Zidane). SMFH
He was always like that, you were just blind to it and want him gone because the team isn't winning anymore. I complain about the way the club is run because it is run in the image of this person for a very very long time. When he hired your Basque Sex Symbol you wasn't calling him senile, you stood and applauded like a trained sea world dolphin. Now take your medicine and either hang around for the circus you signed up for and shut up. You claim to be "a fan before Florentino Perez" but the guy that came before him died alone in a hospital bed, as a criminal with a jail sentence on his name. If it weren't for Florentino you'd be on a Manchester United or Arsenal forum right now. The lack of Spanish representation is Florentino's doing, something nobody is talking about now, but has harmed the club for so long. When i bring it up people hold their tummy because, i don't know, maybe they'd rather "oh see men" instead, if you get my point. You dummy.
I hear you. Fair point. I guess we'll just have to wait and see about whether this is his "Biden debate moment" or not. I hear that when I look at the form and especially how the presser started....he seemed very angry off the bat. But as it went along I began to see what he was talking about: - we did read for a long time that he was sick...rumours of cancer etc... lacking energy to do the job etc... - there seemed to be a very concerted media campaign around the fight thing...even though the players were utterly stupid about it....blame's on them....but internally and in the media everyone seemed to be getting paid to enflamme things... which I understand. Real Madrid even in its worse moment is still the biggest thing in football... - he feels like there is a coordinated political campaign against him by opponents...so he's telling them "stop b*tching in the shadows and come put your hat in the ring"... which is fair imo. Anyways I hear you. I'm just not sure he's gone senile...yet lol
It's mostly a strategy. It's a pathetic strategy, but most people agreed with what he was saying so they applauded it. His Balon d'Or statements were just as absurd and detached from reality. The man said "what do people in India know about football anyway?" with a straight face. It's just that the majority here felt like Vini deserved the Balon d'Or so they felt his verbal rage was justified. I found it pathetic, and i proved to be right. Now everybody agrees with me.
Enrique Riquelme is considering taking the step The businessman is traveling to Madrid to meet with his team and try to run in the elections that were called unexpectedly. The sudden announcement of elections leaves very little room for maneuver for anyone who wants to compete with Florentino Pérez . Within ten days, he must form a board of directors of at least nine people, with a vice president who has been a club member for at least 15 years (20 for the president), and, furthermore, they must collectively raise a guarantee of 15% of the budget, that is, 187 million euros out of 1.2 billion. https://as.com/futbol/primera/enrique-riquelme-medita-dar-el-paso-f202605-n/
Agreed. It's definitely strategy. Which is why I don't think he has NOT lost his head like a lot of people are saying. Dude is a killer...you don't become a billionaire by being soft.... That being said...definitely made a lot of mistakes the past 3 years...which have affected club image as you said. I think as fans, we have to be ready for stormy upcoming phase... pissed off Florentino + Mourinho lol. If it means we start winning again in a couple of seasons get our players battle ready....I'm all for it. Mourinho did a phenomenal job in that regard last time (even though it ended badly)....our players became so much stronger mentally...and were able to fight a Barca at the time that seemed nearly invincible.
The most beautiful and ironic thing about this is how the same people on hear losing their minds from Florentino going scorched earth and being "real" are the same ones who bashed Ancelotti for years because he was "too PR", never told what he thought and was always managing the media and players witj "nothing responses". Mind you these are the same people who crying out for blood with Ancelotti and were completely on the ride with Florentino firing him and replacing him with their messiah Xabi. Literally no reflection or accountability in what they say or think.
How the person that came before him died bears zero relevance to this discussion. Same with whether I would have been a fan of this or that club if my grandma had a dick. I have nothing to prove to you about why or how I have become a fan of the club. I am old and educated enough to see things clearly enough, and state clearly what I see. You on the other hand are crossing a line with the insults and this pathetic false moral superiority. Get your shit together, show some basic respect to a person youre talking to, and act like a normal human being not a pompous jackass for a change. fyi, I didn't want Xabi Alonso last summer and thats well documented. I wanted Klopp. But once Xabi was here, I got on board, mostly because I thought its a sign of Florentino's old courage and forward way of thinking, not because of Xabi himself. By sacking Xabi, Florentino proved that he indeed lost his way. In the meantime it was reported that Florentino didn't even want Xabi and hired him grudgingly due to Sanchez's recommendation and wanted to get rid of him asap. In a way I was partial to Xabi exactly because of Florentino and because of the history and my own maturity as a Madrid supporter. Your loyalty stands to nobody and nothing except your own vanity. I'm not a fan of Madrid because Florentino is an amazing construction businessman. I couldn't give a shit about whether hes successful in other ventures. Show the values and the strategy that you used to, or gtfo. And Im sorry for you if you feel sexually threatened by Xabi since you keep bringing it up. His looks also have zero bearing on my support for him. His mind, professionalism and legacy do.
After reading about this other candidate and who is backing him, I think I do get what Florentino was going there for. I don't agree with the whole media outrage crap or the selectivity of calling out the officiating case when you kept your mouth shut at the time where if we pressed we would have ended Barcelona, but I think he's trying to weed out a calculated campaign by this opposition over the past months. There are some shady trails for this Riquelme dude.
Both things can be true though, no? Florentino for decades used the media to tear down people inside the club, so there is no lack of irony in the fact that he's now going off on them for generating negative stories against him.
So does Florentino make important decisions anymore or we go with the theory that he's like King Theodon controlled by Saruman which would be JAS when the team isn't winning titles?
He's most likely involved with the large scope decisions, overall budgeting, sponsorship deal (stadium naming right for example, the huge HP logo etc.). The whole "our team is the greatest, we don't need players" is more likely due to the fact that the club has prebudgeted every little cent for the stadium project to pan out, and the economics of coming and going is ROUGH in return. The last summer was brutal. About 200 mil. for pretty much nothing out of the ordinary. Players that available for a fraction. That's probably been a major concern with Xabi. The club spent major coin to get players and they all turned to dust as soon as they got through the door. He is involved with the shop window with the players because he comes form an era where the exec and presi was a media entity within itself. Just like Laporta is for Barca for example. Lim on the other hand didn't even visit his own new stadium festivities.
And i want 25 mil. on my bank account, waking up with either of that happening is just as likely and has been so far a while.
