He was hired to improve and get the most out of the talent he had available. Of course Mexico would be better if our squad consisted of players in Champions League teams. But then we wouldn't be looking to just get "El Quinto partido"; a third rate coach like Osorio wouldn't have opportunity to coach us at that point. There have been less talented teams than Mexico who have reached "El Quinto partido". Both the players and ESPECIALLY the coaches have failed to perform. I see people pining for better players(faster, more physical, better technique). I'm all for it. But how about we start meeting up to our current potential & expectations. No we don't need all our players to play in Europe to reach the 5th game. It's just the 5th game ffs! (Don't confuse this for me saying that I don't want our players to move to Europe.)
You are not wrong. That doesn't mean getting a random foreign coach is the better option. IMO At least the Mexican coach will get dumped if things start going bad. Look at what happened with Sven, Osorio, Tata. Tata had us hobbling and playing his boring ass football all the way to the WC. There was no media outcry; compare it to when we were playing Chepo-ball. We lost multiple finals; again no media pressure. Again not opposed to a foreign coach if the jump in quality is enough.
We do have some good coaches, but they are not sexy enough for the fans or the media. Herrera is a good coach, Lozano is a good young coach with room to grow, Ambriz is also a good proven coach. Tena, Vucetich, Memo Vasquez I think are also good coaches. All those coaches could have done the same or better job than Tata on the Mexican National team. Sure you can tell about all their failures, but even Bielsa, who is highly respected around the world has had his failures. The reason we don't have more coaches is because they are not given the same opportunities and the same "leash" as foreign coaches. I remember when teams led by mostly Mexican coaches and Mexican players played Libertadores they had a lost of success, yet towards the last participationes with more foreign players and coaches our success was diminishing. Whoever the coach is, it will not matter if we do reduce the foreign players spots per team and really focus on player development like we were from 2005 to 2012. We also need new investors new owner to eliminate the multi propiedad, bring back a national cup, where teams can use some of their young players in competitive matches, etc...
Performance for a coach is decision making, subs, etc and I would argue that what caca aguirre did over two world cups is worse than tata, first losing to the US then fumbling what was likely the best group of players Mexico will ever have: you had Marquez winning a champions league, Pardo winning titles in Germany, a young Ochoa, Chicha who had just signed to Manchester United when they were good and pretty much single handedly taking chivas to a libertadores final, a still good salcido and Osorio, Barrera who was on fire, Juarez, a young Gio and Vela, and he goes and plays midget conejo, an injured guille, old Blanco, Bofo lmfao etc. and what’s worse is he never admits he was wrong, he just uses the excuse ‘I didn’t have enough time to think about if Ochoa was better than conejo so it wasn’t fair to me’ which he answered something like 8 years later. I feel as though a lot of Mexican and Argentine coaches are so insecure on the inside, there’s always some ego problem where they have to make themselves feel better as a human by casting away a player, aguirre with pardo over two world cups, lavolpe with cuah, tata with everyone, even Vucetich in liga mx had corona playing in the reserves didn’t he? Then there was chepo who had the team turn on him because of being rat over partying, if I remember correctly Herrera was also toying with the idea of not taking any euro players to 2014. There’s too much daddy issues going on there with these coaches, while I would prefer a Mexican coach too it seems the last truly good Mexican coach was Lapuente.
There’s only one right answer: Guillermo Almada. Knows Mexican football Wins Plays the youth Isn’t bothered with the jerarquía Is a great motivator Has already expressed his interest in coaching the NT
Was watching a youtube video and Osorio said he would accept to be the coach again. I'm not saying I want him, so don't take it that way. I'm asking here, is there any value there?
I don't think this is possible as CONMEBOL has 10 nations, so everyone is playing at the same time. In Europe you have teams that aren't playing on a given qualification date
No way, his career has gone downhill since. Same with Herrera, but at a least he's not completely stupid with the rotation bullshit.
Unless Osorio has changed, I don’t like him as a NT coach but he would be a drastic improvement tactics-wise over Tata. I really do like Osorio’s tactical flexibility which I think we sorely lacked for the last 2 years or so but his player formations/placements are weird sometimes and I think he makes some weird decisions
we are not making it to the quarterfinals with a mostly Liga MX (especially with Liga MX) based squad anymore. The game has changed and 90% of the world’s best players and football is practiced in Europe now. Every other league in the world seems to have figured this out except Liga MX J-League and K-League are developing players and moving them to Europe ASAP themselves. Liga MX needs to catch up or the NT is going to fall far behind the likes of even Canada
I think there’s good Mexican coaches tbf. Ambriz I think is solid and I hope he makes another go at Europe but outside of Ambriz there’s really no one else. Fentanes just started and I really do hope Jimmy, Efra and Rafa the best in Europe because we need new coaching badly
All media blows, but Mexican media is the worst in sports. I mean we lost almost a week ago and on landing page of espndeportes one of their top stories is still about HH and Funes going to saltbae restaurant afterwards, wtf
Don't see why not. He was teary eyed when he was giving analysis for the Argentina - Mexico match. We need someone who actually gives a shit, something we really lacked over the last 4 years. But his career post Mexico has been too iffy. He's been a coach for 20 years and has only won 2 titles, lsat in 2018. La Volpe tier stats.
This the problem is that they are stubborn and refuse to renovate their style and get obsolet pretty fast clubs have their reasons to not trust in them anymore
Herrera was teary eyed after he watched the Mexico-Argentina match and I was teary eyed after watching him have talent like Vela, Chicharito, Peralta, Jimenez, Gio, Guardado, Herrera, and knowing he barely beat a Costa Rica team due to a penalty and how he almost lost to a 10 man Panama team in the gold cup of 2015 if not for a penalty kick. No thank you.
and don't forget Jona Dos Santos who was getting minutes in Barcelona. But you might be right about these coaches being insecure.
we need to push for more mexicans to start in clubs, specially young guns. I don't even know if we had an 18-21 year old on the squad!!
Every team in the quinto partido is loaded with players who play in Europe. It's as simple as this: Sobre mandar jugadores a Europa o no, la mejor definición que he encontrado es ésta: Tener jugadores en ligas top no te garantiza el éxito. NO tenerlos SÍ te garantiza que NO lo tendrás.— Martín del Palacio Langer (@martindelp) December 6, 2022

That Costa Rica team was nearly in the semifinales in Brazil and Panama was athletic asf bunkering for dear life the whole...let's be real.. I understand he's not the right guy because he's not a taction but let's be fair for a bit regarding his record...
