i was looking around ebay and i found this jersey. i thought it was an awesome deal (for only $9.99) and was gonna buy it. then, i looked at the jersey detail, and saw that it had only 2 stripes, not like the 3 stripe adidas REAL jersey! some dude is trying to rip off some fans...so funny! ebay jersey and by the way, dont buy it!
There was a thread earlier this month. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150116 I can't chastise you for not knowing that, though. There have been a lot of threads in the last few weeks.
1. You were looking at jerseys on e-bay. 2. This jersey is from a seller based in Hong Kong. 3. The price is less than $10. WTF were you expecting?
It's not uncommon to see DCU jerseys on ebay and almost all of them are legit. Ebay is the best way to find jerseys from previous years. It's not uncommon for the starting bid to be low ($10-$20 range) and you don't know the seller is from Hong Kong until you look carefully. Location of seller is not on the search page.
I agree with the points neilgrossman made above, but Andy wasn't saying anything is wrong with Asians- it's just that China is the knock-off capital of the world.
Oh, come on. I don't think Andy was suggesting that "something is wrong with asians." I'd bet money he was simply referring to the fact that a hella lot of counterfeit clothing/DVDs/what-have-you comes from east Asia in general, and HK in particular.
I buy stuff on eBay. Way to oversimplify and misunderstand my point. "Hong Kong" was one of the first things I saw on the page. Anyone that frequents eBay and isn't aware of that sports items are awash in cheap fakes from southeast Asia is being disingenuous at best.
Nothing is wrong with Asians. However, sports clothing on eBay from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, etc... is most likely counterfeit and poorly made. Occasionally you can get some good stuff cheap, but most of it is crap. It's the ultimate in "buyer beware." I don't think there are many scams, just a lot of "you get what you pay for". Plus DC United and MLS don't get any money from the counterfeits.
Anyone that frequents bigsoccer as much as, say AndyMead, and doesn't cut a relative newbie poster some slack for posting the odd ebay ripoff without claiming that he is an ebay ubernerd is being a tad ironic at best. Cheers, Tim
Criminy can you just stop with the pissiness already? I thought we already mentioned in another thread here that it was beyond irksome. If we need to get a mod to block your access here I guess we can go that route. K
I'm just fine with Andy's attitude. It makes for good entertainment. No need for a mod to step in. Tim
This is the part that concerns me most. I bothers me when I see those guys outside the stadium selling their $5 shirts for the same reason.
Don't mind him; he just likes to rag on us, though he'll never admit to it (plus he must still be smarting from the Cup final). Way to jump on the unsuspecting newbie. Hong Kong and SE Asia in general is a hotbed of counterfeit soccer shirts for all kinds of clubs, not just DCU. They sell them for way cheaper than a real shirt would go for, and there's usually some egregious error in its design that the unobservant will easily fall for.
