I'm sorry, but lack of a back-up keeper cost us 3 three point on Saturday? How does that work? So the only thing missing between a 4-0 drubbing at home and "three points" was a 5th string keeper in the net while we played down a man, instead of Zawadzki? That's quite a stretch.
Once he got red we still had a chance (not a very good one ) once they made the fk goal we were in near impossible and at 2-0 it was game over. So another keeper makes it a closer game but it was almost certainly a loss the moment Romero made that boneheaded decision.
I don't want to argue the call, it was what it was. But this description if what occurred seems like something of a reach. I'm not sure that "launching yourself at the opponents head" is an entirely accurate picture.
He is out of the box so he can’t punch the ball. He caught him him on or above the neck with the elbow or forearm. Idk in what World that’s not a red ? He couldn’t make a play on the ball it was already cleared. I’m sure he wanted to run into him and take a yellow but he didn’t need to and he deserved a red card it’s really not a call to be argued. If it was Nancy would have argued the call.
I'm just glad that we'll have forgotten about this game during our deep playoff run. Hashtag famous last words.
Don't forget "Blinside", even though Morris checks him out twice. Kyle's description is what I would expect for a targeting foul in American Football. Arfsten getting his toe on the ball changed up how everyone reacted.
I am fighting for my life in the Crew group chat I texted this to. This is the most obvious red Ive ever seen, its a flying punch to an opponents head/neck. Its completely wild. My buddy, who is one of those guys who infuriatingly likes to pretend hes some kind of unbiased clear minded referee every game when hes the worlds biggest homer (every ref is biased against the Crew and everything is unfair and cheating, you know the type), this guy says he needs to see more angles on it. And actually it wasnt DOGSO (he wasnt kicked out for DOGSO, its a flying punch to the head!). And hes avoiding contact to the best of his ability (as if that matters at all???) (and hes actually not avoiding contact at all, what on earth on you looking at?????). Sorry, I had to vent about this clown somewhere because Im tired of his total nonsense. Carry on!
But he didn't need to come out like that. Arfsten catching up to Morris from behind and Cheberko tracking back and on pace to get in front of Morris. Just not a very smart move at all. And of course on top of that, he knew he couldn't risk a red card. Such a bad move.
I don’t think Arfsten was anywhere near the play. Zawadski said he was the one that got hit. Arfsten was upfield waiting for Cucho to slot him an easy pass to justify his playing time. To me it looks like Romero came out, ball got cleared, and he used his hands to protect himself. Only other thing he could do was stand there and take the charge from Morris. That would have hurt quite a bit. It wasn’t violent. Yellow was more than sufficient. The ref was/is a coward. I left in the 70th minute after the 4th goal. I’ve never done that in 28 years. The street was packed on the way back toward downtown. I don’t blame the team so much as I blame the league officials for putting us in that situation. Wasn’t going to justify it with my time in their seat.
My bad. It was Zawadzki not Arfsten. Either way, say Zawadzki does not get the ball there, what was Romero going to do out there? Slide tackle Morris? Which would be very risky. But I see your point somewhat about the collision. That said, he did jump up, have his arms out, which did hit Morris in the face or head region. You say yellow, I say it was extremely stupid and he risked getting a red coming out like that, and he ended up getting red carded.
1. The call up rules are dumb, that's pretty obvious. Worse when you consider this is a rescheduled game. 2. We knew what the rules were, we should have had another keeper. Nancy and Tall could have fixed that. Screw that LARPer from Seattle though. 3. It's a red. Clumsy. Not a DOGSO. SFP seems like a good call there. But...it's a red. 4. I hope we can now concentrate on the most important thing left this season...making sure that Sean can play every position before the end of the year.
I listened to Soccerwise (the Tom Bogert, David Gass, and Jordan Angeli podcast) and Gass asked around. Crew decided early in the week that they would make this stand, and it blew up. However, sources around the league believe the crew were screwed and weren't sure why it wasn't granted for multiple reasons: The friendly shouldn't have counted; Crew played the most games and are punished; Crew (and Seattle) didn't want to play this weekend and were unhappy with it being rescheduled for this window; and No one is quite sure why they had to have cole/Stas on the CCC roster but several people said they had to have them even tho the rules don't (Gass speculated that by listing one on the 35 man preliminary matchday roster that counted as a callup). Still, Gass thought we should have just signed Cole or another free agent. He then hinted what I guessed that Lapkes could just have his HG timeline moved up a bit and be on the first team. This is reading the tea leaves a bit, but it sounds like if someone is on a first team roster, they cannot exactly train as if they are on the MLSNP side. Ive heard Tom or Doyle say that MLSNP has a salary cap that is closely held secret.
More info from Pat 1833258129922134413 is not a valid tweet id (Early in the week could have been earlier in the week.)
If they notified us Thursday when did we ask? You have to be more proactive like when you signed Romero. Why ask MLS last minute they have a history of being inconsistent. Garber likes NYRB more than Crew clearly
This game is already the distant past. This team has done extraordinarily well for having played the most games in the league and for having the most congested schedule. it was a stinker, ok, so what. Romero made a ridiculous decision and clearly was correctly sent off. it's not the end of the world, Cincinnati is next, a six pointer.
Quick follow up to this: Mr. Definitely Not The Worlds Biggest Homer now claims that there is a good argument to be made that the contact from Romero was incidental. I wish to unsubscribe from this earth.
