Nancy saying that calling up a player for the Villa friendly counted as a call up which is a very bizarre rule lol
After tonight's big loss, we still have the best GD in the league. In fact the only team that's even close is Miami, and we're not going to tie them in the standings.
Unless Miami gets a loss in their next match it’s going to be super hard to pass them. We don’t control our own destiny unfortunately.
No he is saying what I said that if the player doesn’t play any minutes (or in a friendly that doesn’t matter ) then why should that count as a call up. If it does count than the rule needs to allow more call ups. So like me he doesn’t like the rule as it’s currently written and implemented. However i will argue they knew the rule and should have asked far in advance (perhaps they did ?) but Tall certainly could of got another keeper. What i don’t know is if you can do short term contracts and what the limits are. But we definitely needed another GK besides Romero. Instead we rolled the dice and paid the price.
People who weren't at the Crew game: Krypto https://www.columbuscrew.com/roster/ ...from the sounds of it. Had they scored just one measly goal, it would have at least netted some of us two Grouchies.
I agree that the rule is dumb and should be tweaked. That being said, everyone knew what the rules were going in, so you have no one but yourself to blame for that. Maybe, I don’t know, going most of the season with an injured backup wasn’t the best idea ever. Get a replacement in sooner. Hindsight and whatnot. Also, if Romero doesn’t forget his playing fútbol instead of football and doesn’t try to do his best Troy Polamalu impersonation, this entire situation is avoided. Pretty clear why this dude is a #3 goalkeeper, terrible decision making.
Hopefully that was just emotion talking, but that gave me vibes that he will be coaching in France sooner rather than later.
I don’t disagree with Nancy. But I also think the rule he’s referring isn’t some secret that no one knows about until it bites them in the ass. The rule is in the current CBA, but the original text of that rule might have changed. We’ll never know. But Nancy, Tall and everyone else making these decisions in MLS should. Also, maybe it wasn’t a brilliant decision to sign a third string goalkeeper who’ll likely be gone every time the Guatemala national team is playing. I get it that Nancy is pissed. But he should be partially pissed at himself.
Someone on reddit pulled the CCC rules, and it was not required to have 3 gks in the 23 man matchday squad. Which begs the question, why we burned the callups on those
Still no word from MLS on what the card was for. After watching it, it can't be DOGSO. The ball was cleared by Sean before any contact was made. MLS's replay, of course, cut out most of the commentary after the card, so I'm not sure what they said about it. I suspect this is one of those, as Kicker likes to say, "Hart aber vertretbar" (harsh but justifiable). I guess Romero thought he was Schumacher.
That leaves aside the question of what the hell Romero thought he was doing. The attacker was not undefended, and there was no reason to come anywhere near that far out and into an area where he can only use his head. It just made no sense. IRT I couldn't believe it and I still can't figure it out. It's true that the guy had zero MLS experience, but he's 26 and has been playing back there his whole life and ought to have some clue. As for the call, Romero was a) stupid and b) clumsy, but the ref has to have called it serious foul play, which I don't see.
I figured it was DOGSO, but I haven't watched any replays. I'm trying to burn this game from my memory.
My guess is dangerous / reckless / violent play. He laid a blindside crackback block on a dude, while launching himself at him and catching him in the head, and not being even remotely close to the ball, nor did he show any interest in doing anything with the ball. He took out Morris, pure and simple. The more I see it, the more obvious it is.
He launched himself into the opponent’s head and made no attempt on the ball. I’ll say it again, if Seattle’s GK did that to Cucho, every single person on the board would accept nothing short of a red card, and anyone who says otherwise is blinded by bias.
Dangerous/reckless is a yellow card offense. Violent conduct is a red card offense and usually carries a 2 game suspension. Again, I haven't watched any replays, but I'm not sure that was violent conduct. I think DOGSO makes more sense.
As far as why we signed a guy that was gonna miss time for international duty, yeah that was a weird move. I don’t think anyone expected Bush to miss this much time though, and Schulte’s rapid ascent to the senior national team is (for me, at least) very surprising. This is just one of those weird things that happens sometimes. The FO and coach should learn from it and move on. I don’t think it’s really worth all the brouhaha.
But it wasn’t DOGSO, because Zawadzki cleared the ball. Morris was literally doing nothing but running and Romero launched himself like a missle and hit him in the neck/head. If an elbow to the head can be a straight red, then surely this can.
Well, here you go. Real time at 1:04, replay at 1:32 On another replay, you can see Romero put his fists together like he’s gonna punch the ball, but just ends up raising them to the level of Morris’ head and then crashes into him.
