I'd love to make it out to a NYRB viewing party, but manhattan and new jersey are too far away for me. I live in Bellport, and I'm gonna try this pub tonight: http://www.irishtimespubny.com/ The Irish Times Pub, located in holbrook(A very nice, central Long Island location. I'm about 20 minutes away), on the FSC pub guide, they had a little advert. They have 35 screens I believe, and seem to be a FSC subscriber. If I head out there tonight, would anyone be interested in joining me?
Actually, scratch that. I'm gonna go to global sports cafe instead. I'll try the Irish Times Pub next weekend, or perhaps the weekend after next. http://www.medfordglobalsportscafe.com/home.htm
So, I went to Global Sports Cafe in Medford, and it was a nice little place. Myabe it was because it was easter weekend, but the bar area was pretty full, but the tables area was practically empty. Everyone was watching either the Mets or the Yankees game. When the Yankees game was up a small group of people came in to watch the UFC fights. So, I asked, and they put the game on for me(in mute, the audio was for the baseball games, or whoever played the jukebox). They have TV's all over, so finding one out of the way to put on the soccer game wasn't too much to ask. It was a flat panel widescreen. On baseball night, it's 2 dollar drafts. So I had two buds for 1.86(don't ask me how, maybe they forgot to ring one up or something.) Next time I"m gonna try the Irish times pub, and I"m gonna snoop around in Farmingville and see if they have a soccer friendly bar or club. It'd be nice to get a few people together to catch some Red Bulls games at the pub, I don't know how many of you there are, and how many of you go to Nevada Smith's regularly, but if you like the idea of a Long Island group-pub-get-together, let me know, I'd be up for it.
I'm down with a long island watch party, but we have to find a more centralized location. Hollbrook and farmingville are really far from me. How about around the rt.110 area. That's pretty accesible for people in nassau and suffolk.
I'm about 45 minutes from the Walt Whitman mall(I sold tickets there during the last holiday season). 45 Minutes would be hell of a trek for me. But, I'd be willing to do it every now and then. Maybe we could go back and forth or something. I know there are several Red Bulls fans on this board from Long Island. But I really don't know where they're located geographically. If we could find a nice bar near to where the bulk of us live, that'd be cool. If you know of any bars out in that area(preferably ones that carry FSC), I'd be willing to try it out. Unfortunately next weekend I"m busy. But perhaps the weekend after next? Thursday, the 23rd. They play the KC Wizards, away. Maybe then?
definitely a solid idea here- its kind of middle ground, but south shore- I was over at the half penny pub in Bay Shore and they had the mls game on both tv's, very good wth buybacks there as well
I don't know where on the LIE you are, but this should help: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&u...a=X&oi=local_result&ct=directions-to&resnum=1
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q...uggestions&resnum=0&ct=property-revision&cd=1 This pub in Bay Shore is 27 minutes from Walt Whitman mall. It's gonna take me about 30 minutes to get there myself. It'd be cool if we could find a pub that's no more than 30 minutes from each of us.
The main thing is getting a soccer friendly place. 110 would be great for me, but is there a soccer friendly place there?
i'll call up half penny tomorrow and see if they could do anything for us regarding thursday (and making sure it'll be on tv)saying we bring like a half-dozen or so down for the game- I'm a south shore guy in suffolk- but could also do a little further west/closer to lie if this is too far
I would try and go if Houston is not playing at the same time (or if they are playing on FSC and can be put on). I am up for supporting MLS watch parties.
Having worked on 110 near the LIE for about 6 years, I can tell you there really aren't any good bars in that area, soccer-friendly or not. There's the Black Forest Brew Pub, which is back on some side street a little east of 110 and about a mile south of the LIE. It's more of an after work kind of place, I'm not sure what it's like later at night. There's a new Croxley Ale House in Farmingdale, right on Main St. on the LIRR tracks. It used to be The Downtown. Only been there once, it's a real nice bar with lots of TVs. If you don't know Farmingdale, it's a few miles west of 110, a mile or so east of 135, and just north of Rt. 24 (Hempstead Turnpike). Not too hard to get to and fairly centrally located.
A few years back I would go to Irish times, they had Sentana back then, which is more than about any other LI bar as far as soccer. The problem with that place is there is a DJ at night on the weekends, so it is best during the day to watch sports.
I'd be cool with doing a "pub tour", tryingout pubs all over long island, til we find one we like. It'd be nice to find a bar that can put on the audio for us as well(or if they could give us a box where we could choose which tv audio we want). I don't know about you guys, but for me, that's somewhat important.
A. That could take all season. B. The problem here is that Saturday nights is often a huge night for a bar, so they wont put soccer on a tv for just 30 people. C. Rookies in Huntington (just a block away from 110) might be an option, they have 30 ish tv's and two huge screens. We re gonna need a big group tho to have them use one of the screens for RBNY.
called up today- no luck on thurs... "ladies night"- said there are only 4 tvs in the place and ddn't seem willing to guarantee us anything unfortunately- sounds like a different staff than when i went there- I'd definitely try a place like croxley's- great beer and wings there- been the one in rockville center, dont know too much about the farmingdale one- a bit more central for the nassau folks as well
I called croxley's. They'd be willing to put the game on a tv for us on thursday, but no audio, not for a soccer game(they also don't carry fsc, but they have msg and espn2, and probably telefutura which pretty much covers most of the Red Bulls games.). Thursday night tends to be "ladies night" all over the place, but they had a "burger and ale" special for 10.95, and a "steak and ale" special for 16.95. If we could get some guys(I'm shooting for 4 or 5 honestly) together, I'd be willing to try this place out. It's 40 minutes from me, but if some guys will be there, I'll def go. What do you guys think? How's the location for you guys?
