I made a bet with my friend about Football teams in London. Could you please list all that you know of. I know Arsenal West Ham Tottenham Chelsea
Depending on your definition of London you could include the following: Arsenal, Brentford, Charlton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leyton Orient, Millwall, Queens Park Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford, West Ham, Wimbledon
Hendon, Enfield, Leyton Pennant, Hampton & Richmond Borough, Barnet, Harrow Borough, Bishop's Storford, Borehamwood, Aylesbury, Hayes, Kingstonian, Wimbledon AFC, Purfleet, Stevenage, Gravesend & Norfleet, are some non league teams I can think of in greater London
Lets limit it. Anything within the M25 is fair game. After all, Londoners believe you need a passport to go pas the M25 into that foreign land that is the rest of the country...
Re: Re: London Teams? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Thats hilarious. Lets just include League teams in this, ie the first four divisions. So we got; Arsenal, Brentford, Charlton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leyton Orient, Millwall, Queens Park Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford, West Ham, Wimbledon (not for long) And until recently, Barnet. I've heard it said that London has more League clubs than any other city in any other country in their respective Leagues. Anyone care to substantiate that? (or make sense of it?)
Nots surprising, really. London is the biggest city in the UK. Still, cant organise the building of a piddlin new stadium. Why am I surprised?
Re: Re: Re: London Teams? In 'Always look on the bright side of life.' Eric Idle said "So what if your team lost 11-0 to Barnet". Also, 'Barnet' is Cockney rhyming slang for hair (Barnet fair).
Re: Re: Re: London Teams? I'd be very surprised if London has more league clubs than Buenos Aires (or Rio, or Sao Paulo). But its gotta be close.
How many places are there to play basketball in the New York metro area? Not counting small high school gyms, I mean. I'll bet it's at least 2 dozen, with the pro teams, the college teams, etc.
Yeah, they're so great that they couldn't find playing time for a player who is good enough to start in and win a game in the knockout round of the World Cup. That's a deep team!!
At least the London clubs don't dominate the league. Look at Greece, Turkey, and Russia to see the top 3 or 4 teams all hailing from the capital.
Re: Re: Re: Re: London Teams? There was a thread about this very subject and I believe Rio de Janeiro (or was it Buenos Aires) had the most 'professional' clubs within city limits. It's a shame about Barnet. And it doesn't look like the Bees are returning to Nationwide next season.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: London Teams? Buenos Aires has 36 teams (stadiums?) but I'm pretty sure they aren't all professional, certainly not full-time professional anyway. Virtually no other league makes a distinctions of full/part time teams the way England does, with a division where every single club above a certain line (in England's case Div 3 or higher) being full-time.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: London Teams? BA must have the most in their country's top flight. Looking at the last championship table.. Independiente Boca River Velez Racing (5 of the top 6) Arsenal (think they are BA) San Lorenzo Lanus Banfield (9 of the top 12) Olimpo Dont you love these virtually meaningless, but entertaining discussions?
Mcnitro3000 was, as we say in England, 'taking the pis5'. He is a Man U fan. Crystal Palace rather hilariously beat Liverpool in the FA Cup. Liverpool and Man U hate each other. That is why he said that Crystal Palace are the best London team. As for the 'most clubs in a city' argument, which city's clubs out of London and BA actually pay their players on time? Bloody amateur Argies!
But only one of them pays their players - the NY Knicks. (Well, I take that back. No doubt some HS and college kids are getting under the table $)
Ah, but if you consider how big London is, you would have to include the New Jersey Nets, who are just a 15 minute bus ride from Manhattan. And college teams in NY are just as big as the lower division clubs in London. Sure, they're not professional, but they get a comparable level of media attention and fan support.
