Plus a few others from the good ole days when there was a better chance (and traffic) to get into MLS.

Barons, Iron/Iron Horse, Voyagers, Warriors, Wolves

Scratch the Iron. The new AFL team are the Iron. Their logo isn't good at all. They could have done better.

I'd suggest naming the club after a local industry like the Brewers did. The whole AC/FC/SC is becoming boring now. The club should be named after something that Milwaukee is known for.

Perhaps something like Milwaukee Tanners ('The Tanners')

    PETA would have a fit!!

Paul Allen built the stadium. Drew Carey had nothing to do with Seattle until Joe Roth brought him into the investment group.

They could follow the steps of the NSC Minnesota Stars. It would be a long shot, but so were the Stars. Plus FC Milwaukee has two Development Academy teams in the U16s and U18s.

Because "FC" is what you are. It's not a nickname or a team name. You are a football club. I think this is part of the misconception in America and why so many Americans struggle with what are considered "traditional" club names. I think the media is partly to blame. I cringe every time I hear some sportscaster refer to Dallas as FC Dallas or FCD or Toronto as Toronto FC or TFC. If you're talking about MLS, the FC is redundant. How many times do you hear Sky refer to Chelsea as Chelsea FC? Or Manchester United as Manchester United FC?

Anyway, to stay on point, remember Bavarians is actually Bavarian Soccer Club Milwaukee. Milwaukee Bavarians is an informal re-wording to have it conform to the North American sports standard of [City name] [Nickname]. That being said, as an outsider, I think it would be a great choice for an MLS club in Milwaukee...provided they either somehow find a way to pay for the entrance fee or they manage to have the fee waived. But an entirely new club "stealing" tradition by ransacking an established club's name is lamer than calling them the Milwaukee Triple Hops Beermen.

Why wouldn't you say it, if it is indeed the name of the club ?

I watch Sky Sports News quite a bit and they say say "football club" rather than "fc" quite a bit. They also say "AC" in front of clubs as well ... such as AC Milan, in fact I here that one quite a bit.

The FC is also an identifying portion of the team nam. If you were watching Sportscenter and caught the teaser going into break and just heard "Toronto beat New York 2-1 and you don't want to miss the highlights" .... you don't know what they're talking about. Hockey ? Basketball ? Baseball ? Soccer ?

I loved the Rampage! I was there when they won the title in 2002. I think its a little too generic, though. I'd prefer something more relevant to the city. And with the growing success around developing Milwaukee into the Silicon Valley of water technology, how about the Milwaukee Metro SC Fresh Coasters?

I think Voyageurs would be a good fit for a Milwaukee MLS team name. Voyageurs were French-Canadian fur traders that settled in Wisconsin (and Milwaukee) that initially founded the state. The founder of Milwaukee, Solomon Juneau, was a voyageur. Wisconsin has a streak going with its professional sports franchises that have the names of them representing the state in some way. The Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers to name the big ones. Some good names could be Milwaukee Voyageurs FC, FC Voyageurs, Milwaukee Voyageurs, Milwaukee Voyageurs SC, etc. Not to mention that it is a very unique name in professional sports as not a single team in North America has claimed it yet :)

Really good points. Verbalizing the "FC" makes as much sense as Waynve Larivee saying "Touchdown Packers, Inc." whenever they score, and even Bavarian Soccer Club is an anglicization of their original name, Fussball Club Bayern.

As far as club names, I feel like a Milwaukee-based club's name could make some allusion to the year 1848 (Milwaukee 48ers FC, FC Wisconsin 1848, etc). It was the year that Wisconsin joined the union and a mass-exodus of Socialists from Germany that resulted in Milwaukee seeing its first big wave of immigrants who were then known as "Forty-Eighters."

Why not have the name be the Milwaukee Brew Meisters?

It acknowledges our beer brewing history and Miller would have another team to advertise on.

Although, I'd prefer if it was a company that didn't exclusively make horse piss flavored beer...

There is a Facebook page set-up with the intent of starting to get together some supporters for a Milwaukee team. We are interested in following what Philadelphia and more recently Indianapolis have done to secure a team for their area. You can find us at Bring Professional Soccer to Milwaukee on Facebook.
In the coming weeks it would be nice to get some people together to really get this thing going. There seems to be a lot of good ideas and it would be nice to get people in one room(or Facebook page) to really discuss. I have a few people interested in meeting already. Look to the Facebook page for meeting dates and updates.

It's time to get this going.
