Isn't Common Man going to be leaving, too, since they also were part of the buyout?

Right? I remember meeting him at the SaveD The Crew announcement party, awesome guy. He was a nice, consistent voice. Then again, the MLS soccer reporter pool took an even bigger hit, losing one of the most experienced and probably informed team reporters out there, Goff in DC.

But when Dom is talking about the spring game eight days after...

Ya gotta have respect for anyone who's been doing the same thing for that long, but he's definitely "old media" or whatever term you want to use.

This is a big loss for Crew supporters. Mike Arace has accepted a buyout, and is gone from The Dispatch. Mike was a "tell it like it is", in-your face journalist who did some great work during the Save The Crew era, still rips Precourt and Garber to shreds whenever he gets a chance, and he routinely calls out the Haslams for all of their transgressions. I will miss his salty stories and common man's perspectives on sports. He loved covering The Crew. Now we are left with only the recent college graduate, who never saw a soccer match until she started her Dispatch job.....

When Joe Blundo left, didn't he go to a freelance gig where he was still allowed to write for the Dispatch?

Maybe there's a bit of hope, but that was a lifetime (as the world of media changes) ago when he left.

I always liked Tom Hunter. Was that his name? The sports columnist is a dying breed.

Tom Reed was with The Athletic.

There was also Bob Hunter for the Dispatch, but he retired a while ago.

That is all the Dispatch does, is hire beat reporters who are fresh out of college and have no clue about soccer. I think the last one who did not meet those criteria was Shawn Mitchell. And predictably, once they get their feet wet, their head on straight, the Dispatch moves them to a different, bigger beat/desk, or they go on to greener pastures like the previous one did when she went to WAPO. That's why I don't hold it against thee reporters, because they do the best they can in the role, the Dispatch is ultimately to blame for not giving a fresh f*ck about the reporting they do for this team.

Agreed, and it's gotten much, much worse after the USA Today takeover......now they dumped Arace.

Agreed. This is a paper that, when deciding to go digital-only for one day per week, picked the day most Buckeye football games are played on. o_O

That actually isn't too crazy. As a morning paper it isn't going to be doing any actual game reporting that day. Pregame. sure. I still recall getting a morning paper at my alma mater's town and getting a roster sheet to take into the stadium. But that was old school.

Speaking of which. did any of you enjoy getting the old school roster card at the last home game? I really appreciated it.

Yes, but I have a suspicion there was motive behind it.

With only 2 homes games left, I wouldn't be shocked if they do it for 1 or 2 more, but that will likely be the end of it

Some people liked taking the roster from Saturday's paper to the games, but didn't they move that to Friday's paper?

The roster card was definitely nice. That really does seem like something they could find a sponsor to do every game, but I suspect it was part of their "turn back the clock" theme for one night only. I'd like to be wrong, but it's also a lot more environmentally friendly not to do it.

I'm skeptical about "a lot" for something that small. But cheaper for the team? Yes.

One game might not be "a lot" but thousands of those per game definitely adds up fast, especially when day-of-game rosters are easily accessed online.

For $5 per month, he’s pumping out some quality Crew coverage. Been like 4 or 5 articles in the last week. It makes up for the lack of reporting from the dispatch. I’d love to see Arace at Crew press conferences asking some tough questions. No one else seems to be able to do so.

They're possibly scared of repercussions including, but not limited to, revocation of credential and when I say that, I mean "it's happened before and the media members sure don't want it to happen again".

On ACES Radio, he said he still had press credentials.
