I think they do the best of the local channels with their Crew coverage. The others have stepped up their game in the past few seasons, but ABC/FOX is still king of local Crew coverage.
Per the latest soccer speakeasy, the crewsletter is coming in the coming weeks! It was delayed for technical reasons up the chain--whatever that means.
This, to me anyway, points to the club hearing negativity about not signing anyone. Maybe ticket sales are soft? I know attendance in the stands looks down when I look around during a game. Seems to be a planted story.
There's a pretty big shakeup happening at 97.1 The Fan right now. Common Man and TBone will air their last show next week with TBone apparently moving to another time slot at the station. The morning show, "Morning Juice", with Bobby Carpenter and Brandon Beam is ending and no replacement has been announced yet. Speculation is that TBone will be getting his own show in the morning slot. What does this have to do with the Crew? Well, TBone is a big Crew fan and has always tried to sneak in some Crew talk whenever possible on Common Man and TBone. Having his own show, he might be able to increase his Crew coverage a bit. Obviously station management will have some control over what he talks about and will require a lot of OSU talk, but assuming he'll be headlining his own show I think we can expect to see a bit more Crew talk which is exciting.
I was hoping hed be doing the show with Beamer and then we'd get loads of crew talk. Still should help with coverage. Beamer goes to the buckeye show. Im very upset about this, even if Timmy gets the second chair with Man. I am a Tier 1 listener, who, like man, doesnt like change. They did do a bit of crew talk on yesterday's show, which has been very minimal for much of this season. Probably because the CBJ weren't a dumpster fire.
We have the crew beat reporter covering this lol https://www.dispatch.com/story/spor...ommon-man-t-bone-bobby-carpenter/83208167007/ Its Tyvis and Bone in the morning Man and Timmy in the drive. Sounds like Bobby and shark will be digital until their contracts run out/retirement
How the hell is Mark the Shark still on the radio? He's been around forever...good to him to still doing what he obviously loves to do. Without knowing, it'd be easy to guess he retired a while ago. There can't be many Columbus radio hosts left from the mid-90s even though it seems to be a fairly "easy" job for the music DJs. For the talk hosts? Not so much. The biggest concern would seem to be if the corporate owners want to change formats.
I wonder if he still has Jim Thome's home run ball from Game 5 of the 1995 ALCS? (It was a two-run HR in the 6th and Cleveland won the game 3-2 over Seattle.)
She is...last I heard. Check Pure Rock 105.5 WXTQ from Athens Ohio. She broadcast(s?) from her home on the west side of Columbus. They stream online. She used to have a "Waudcast" about "waud-ever" which was typically 5-15 minutes on "the day of all days, the day we get paid, the day we get down and play vay-ve....FRIIIIIIIIII-DAAAAAAAAY" but I think it ended when she went back to FM.
I remember her in the late 90's when I briefly worked for Calltech and CompuServe on the Westside of town. Those were the days...
FYI: Massive Report recorded their 500th episode on Monday night, featuring Patrick Schulte, Max Arfsten, Duncan Oughton and 5 dudes who all quit the Massive Report podcast sometime over the past 15 years. Link: https://massivereportpodcast.podbean.com/e/ep-500/
I'm about halfway through. Solid listen so far. It's a bit hectic at times with the background noise and the number of people involved, but still enjoyable. The middle segment with yourself, some of the other OGs, and Duncan Oughton was fun to listen to. Duncan provided some really cool insight from the player perspective and there was some interesting conversation about how supporter culture has changed over the years. I definitely love what MLS/Columbus Crew have become, but I do miss the more organic feel of the supporter culture from 15-20 years ago that was talked about in the podcast. 90% of current MLS fans have no idea what that world was like, but it really helped keep the league alive (with some help from a few billionaires funding everything) and lay the ground work for what we have today.
Still waiting for it to show up in my podcast app....usually it's there Tuesday mornings....wonder where the hold up is.
Sirk checks in with an article about the time Pelé came to Cleveland. https://sirkbook.com/2025/04/25/the-night-pele-and-a-melee-came-to-cleveland/
Wasn’t sure where to put this, and if it has already been noted elsewhere on here I apologize but I was at the Kroger on Maxtown/State Street in Westerville and they had some Patron/Columbus Crew gift set in their liquor store. You get a bottle of patron and a couple of crew glasses. Yes probably really old news but first time I have seen it
What did the glasses look like? Which logo? I might have to check out the Giant Eagle liquor store by me in Dublin.
