Now that loans are permitted between Premiership clubs, we'll be able to see for ourselves how our loaned out players are doing rather than a "Oh yeah, he's done well for Colchester while he was there" comment that can't be verified. With this in mind I thought it might be an idea to start a thread on the performances of our loanees. Moritz Volz: - Birmingham 2 - 2 Fulham. Volz started at right back and played the full 90 minutes, ending up on the right side of midfield. While at right back he had a solid game, not getting beaten by the opposing midfielder, making a couple of decent tackles and covering his central defenders well, one vital clearance saved a certain goal. All in all a good, solid display although he didn't get forward much, but this may have been due to the 4-5-1 formation Fulham play in their away games. Leeds are on live tomorrow and Everton next Sunday, so I'll try to have a look and see how Pennant and Jeffers get along.
Good idea for this. I try to follow the other teams in the league and specifically the Arsenal loanees, but don't always have to the time to dig for specific performance info.
Jermaine Pennant: Leicester 4 - 0 Leeds Jermaine Pennant played the 90 minutes in an uninspired and pretty listless Leeds performance. He failed to sparkle, but there was no fight in this Leeds side, so he was no worse than the rest of them. He had a few runs towards the end of the first half, but nothing that worried the Leicester defence to much. Leicester were good value for their win.
yeh, i would say pennant was one of the very very few bright spots on the leeds side tonight. although it wasn't hard to be bright in a team that lacked any quality whatsoever. my dead grandmother with no legs could have played as well as roque junior. he just furthur fuels my intense hatred of brazilians, and brazlian defenders in particular. if only they were all like gilberto and edu, not flamboyent, just solid players. but i digress, pennant did well when he got the ball, but he rarely ever got a touch in the first half, then when they moved him to the center of midfield near the end of the second, he had some good penetrating runs, but nothing leicester couldn't handel
Jermaine Pennant - Leeds vs. Birmingham City First of all, should we put an [R] in the title? Andy? Anyway, without giving the score away, I can say with all honesty that Pennant was absolute crap today. His touch was terrible, as he twice blew golden opportunities inside the box that would have either led directly to a shot or to a scoring chance. The rest of the time he was just as ineffective, mixing in poor passes with giveaways. He went the full 90, and he was outplayed by fellow midfielders Sakho and Olembe.
okay, im starting to admit.. im growing sour on pennant.. he has looked really really bad these past few matches IMO!!! your right dan, his touch was extremely poor and i really cant think of one thing he did right today... at any rate, does playing in a high profile lineup just make him look better (at arsenal?) really dissappointed~~
Well, I'm willing to give JP the benefit of the doubt, because of the positive reports I've seen about him. But he just wasn't very good today (and it wasn't like he was on his heels defending the whole time, since Leeds really had the possession advantage). Don't know how Volz did today for Fulham; don't know if Juan is even playing for Milwall; saw about 5 seconds of Gio (he wears No. 12) for Barca, but I didn't watch much of that match (Spanish soccer now available on Gol TV, by the way, for those who missed it).
Franny Jeffers Jeffers played the 90 minutes for Everton today in a nil-nil draw with Southampton. He was pretty lively, but his only real strike was a nice piece of control and shot from just outside the box which unfortunately for him he hit straight at the keeper. To be fair to him, the service up to him and another Arsenal old by, Kevin Campbell, was dire.
Pennant is staying with Leeds for another month. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=280977&cc=5901
Pennant... Hey, so far this season he has been the lone bright spot on sinking ship. Nice to get him some playing time to develope.
Coleman wants to keep Volz http://www.soccerage.com/en/13/r0868.html I haven't had a chance to see him play yet, but he's doing pretty well from what I've been hearing, and now Coleman wants to keep him around. I'm excited to see what he'll do when Lauren begins his suspension as he'll most likely be back. Hopefully he doesn't impress and then get stuck on the bench again, as that is the best way for the club to lose him to Fulham or any other club.
I just read that about Volz also. Arsenal would be quite stupid to sell him on a permanent when Lauren will be out so long, Volz has (been all accounts) playing really well for Fulham and is still only 20 years old!
