"if they were good they would start for boca" -source close to the league here's the link: http://www.metrofanatic.com/mf/story.jsp?ID=1206 not sure what to say, since i never heard of these guys before our trip to 'tina, seems like they'll count as TI's...they must be pretty cheap, since we're fitting them under our limited cap space...i suppose the immediate positive spin that could be put on this is that we're what adding is hopefully quality depth, something every team can always use...anyone think they have a good idea what their 'projected role' on the team will be?
One of these guys was on the bench for Boca, and both are young. Just remember that Boca is a quality side and produces good players. Just because they don't start doesn't mean they aren't quality. I expect that they are excited about the possabilities of playing first division football and getting a regular paycheck. Also, don't forget that Bradley personally scouted these two and they played with the team down in Argentina, thise bodes well that he thinks they can be impact players.
That quote is a bit ridiculous. Donadoni is arguably the best player in the history of the Metrostars and he didn't start for AC Milan. Milan and Boca are clubs of very similar stature.
IIRC in Donadoni's last couple years with Milan before coming to the Metrostars he came off the bench even though he was still playing for the Italian National Team.
From the standpoint of a neutral observer, the use of that quote displays irresponsible journalism. Such a statement of opinion should not be anonynous, so that the context under which it was said could be inferred. I'm sure Bob Bradley disagrees, as well as anyone who thinks its possible that Boca has more than 11 "good" players.
I'm sorry, but when I start get paid for MetroFanatic, I'll send a massive research squad to Argentina to they can figure out why these 2 guys can't start for Boca. But since that's not bloody likely, you'll have to take that statemement from what all it's worth, which aint much.
All I'm saying is that a quote like that shouldn't be anonymous, or at least should be accompanied by a differing viewpoint, quoted or not. Unless this is an editorial questioning the reasoning for the move, then go right ahead.
Who are you, Edward R. Murrow? It's called a "fan site". We offer opinions. At least we don't make up quotes like *cough* other sites out there. There was only one quote. Deal with it. Move on with your life. Start WizardFanatic.com. Plant a tree. Etc.
don't wanna be a d*ck or add to some problem, but every media source has their way of presenting information, and honestly, whether or not it's tainted with their opinion is up to them...as a reader, you take the information, and either follow up on it or take it for what you think it's worth...personally, i think the quote was funny, and to offer a differing viewpoint, bob bradley still liked them to sign them...which more than comforts me as a metros diehard
I think folks are apprehensive about picking up up two relative unknowns from South America - the last time we did this their names were Joao Luiz and Guido. Buy Bradley is not Parreira. Trust his eye for foreign talent - he passed over quite a few internationals before settling on Guevara and he looks even better than the real deal. These guys will be role players and not integral parts of the team, and they're both young, which should mean they have a lot to play for. Once again, I give Bob the benefit of the doubt on this one. Plus, how much money do you think these guys are going to get? Can we afford much more than the league minimum? And if you think these guys are really no good, tell me how would that money be better spent?
I am very happy to have them on our squad. How many "known players" have been busts in the league. I think about as many as semi unknown players. Also, probably the worst thing about the Metrostars is their depth and most of us trust Bradley's ability to find talent. Plus how hard is it to be better than some of the stiffs on the bench.
You and the Wizards deserve each other. Speculation about this: The quote comes from one of the top guys in the organization and was put out there so that people like us don't jump all over it and overhype the newcomers. If they were good they'd be starting for Boca - that's true. But if they were ***************e, Bradley wouldn't have gone after them in the first place. He wouldn't have brought these guys in if he didn't expect them to contribute. But he's also saying that we shouldn't expect to *ahem* have our socks knocked off, either.
seems like several of the posts pretty much sum the way this should be seen...this move is about as low risk as it gets, and unlike our big "search" for what eventually became guevara, there was never a big deal made of these two players...when guido came over, there was a bigger deal made of it, and thus higher expectations...so far, it's difficult to disagree with much of bob's approach this season, making it easier and easier to be patient and give him the benefit of the doubt oh yea, i also think that if there are people who don't like the way metrofanatic.com is done, the site should be shut down immediately...
Is Corky writing for mf now? J/K. Matrim- you hit it right on the head. Personally I think these guys can come in a maybe start and be a positive force for us. These guys aren't signed to be the next superstars in the league. Perspective folks. Perspective.
We currently only have 23 of 24 spots filled 17 Seniors and all 6 DP: If we aquire both, we only have to say bye to one player until the time comes to sign Edgar. So long Tim Gloweinka.
I like it! These guys get a chance to earn some playing time that they weren't getting for Boca (and earning a few dollars instead of pesos) and we're forging a relationship with one of the better clubs in the world. If they're any good, they'll stick. Otherwise, nothing is lost for either team. I like the work Jeff Moore did last year, but with Ricardo Clark and Richie Williams playing like they are, we don't need him any more. Also, Joe Addo's days appear to be numbered.
