Apologies in advance to "riverplate" for the intrusion. I understand that there is a TV rights "issue" involving a highly-leveraged MAJOR U.S. Spanish-language TV broadcasting company which may significantly affect the first weekend of the Liga Mexicana 2010 Clausura season. I will let the reporters and bloggers chase this story down. In my opinion, this story is big enough to be pursued. I will not name this highly-leveraged company explicitly, but you should be able to read "between the lines" to figure out the company involved. == Confirmed Liga Mexicana U.S. TV schedule for the weekend of January 16-17 (as of January 14 at 7pm ET): Saturday January 16: 5:55pm ET LIVE - Liga Mexicana - Monterrey vs Indios - Telemundo 5:55pm ET LIVE - Liga Mexicana - Jaguares vs Cruz Azul - Azteca America, ESPN Deportes 7:55pm ET LIVE - Liga Mexicana - Chivas Guadalajara vs Toluca - Telemundo 8pm ET - Liga Mexicana - Pachuca vs Estudiantes Tecos - ? 10pm ET SDD - Liga Mexicana - Atlante vs Queretero - Telemundo Sunday January 17: 12:55pm ET LIVE - Liga Mexicana - Pumas vs Atlas - Telemundo 1pm ET LIVE - Liga Mexicana - Puebla vs Tigres - FOX Sports en Espanol (SDD 3pm ET on Azteca America) 5pm ET - Liga Mexicana - Club America vs San Luis - ? 5pm ET - Liga Mexicana - Santos vs Monarcas - ?
ah f'k Univision problems again Alright now Azteca America sublicenses the Pachuca, Santos, and Tecos home games Plus they got America and San Luis because of Televisa Add to that Queretaro (who takes the place of Necaxa in the deal) Looking at your post I can't figure out why both sets of rights are gone. I thought the Televisa feud was done with until 2017 I don't know how long the deal with Azteca America was for? uff This might have to do with pissing off the FMF due to the Mexico v US game that was called off because of the Univison v Telemundo feud for the rights. And Univision wants to buy the rights from the European teams during Mexico's euro tour in May before the World Cup. The FMF has a deal with Telemundo but Univision wants to buy the rights directly from the home team and beat Telemundo. http://laaficion.milenio.com/noticias/34289-la-televisi-n-es-otro-problema This might be a way to pressure Univision to cease and desist. (I'm just speculating)
I held off posting the schedule because of this business. Anyway, it's up now in its own thread. (Oh, and it's inappropriate to highlight one team in listing any schedule.)
What I do know from information made available freely to the public by the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) that... ...the company involved has to make a semi-annual interest payment of $20.2 million in cash to bondholders each January 15 and July 15. However, I do NOT know for certain whether this "cash flow" event on January 15, 2010 is the cause of the "issue".
Azteca America appears to have repossessed the home matches to Estudiantes Tecos, Pachuca, and Santos, at least for the opening weekend. Saturday January 16 7:55pm ET - Liga Mexicana - Pachuca vs Estudiantes Tecos - Azteca America Sunday January 17 4:55pm ET - Liga Mexicana - Santos vs Monarcas - Azteca America == Don't know yet what Televisa will do with Club America vs San Luis.
do you have the file number? I search univision and they have many of their affiliates. I dont feel like reading all of them.
The last Form 10-Q filed by Univision Communications Inc. with the SEC was in May 2009 for the quarter ending on March 31, 2009. http://sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1017008/000119312509113258/d10q.htm Go to pages 16, 17, 32, and 33 and read about the 7.85% senior notes. == I do need to correct myself: Most of those 7.85% senior notes were repurchased by Univision Communications in a "tender offer" in July 2009. Those notes were replaced with $545 million of 12% senior notes, which require semi-annual interest payments on January 1 and July 1 each year starting in 2010, according to a Form 8-K filed by Univision Communications with the SEC in July 2009. http://sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1017008/000119312509149191/d8k.htm $545 million x 0.12 x 0.5 = $32.7 million in semi-annual interest. That means Univision Communications had to pay $32.7 million in cash to bondholders of the 12% senior notes on January 1, 2010.
Didn't see this game on TV, hopefully this whole mess is sorted for the good of the MFL viewer. In other TV news, Mun2 to broadcast Mexican football league matches in English?
its weird to see Univision with next to nothing.... just 3 years ago.... they had just about all the best league games (America, Chivas, Atlas, Toluca, etc) it will be interesting to see how all this will pan out and see if TDN will somehow break into the US market...
that's what Im thinking, I wonder how Univision is gonna pay for the world cup rights if they lose all the games from our league.
at one point... I thought Telemundo would never ever recover. They had NOTHING! They had to resort to showing replays of international matches for their sunday programming.
I remember watching one of these replays one time already knowing the score. I could have sworn I heard fat boy Andres Cantor mention that the game was live. The nerve of them.
from the quarterly report that guy posted Univision has ~ $4 mil in "intangible assets" and ~$5 mil in "Goodwill" does anyone here speak lawyer?
wiki to the rescue http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intangible_asset http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodwill_(accounting)
"...defined as identifiable non-monetary assets that cannot be seen, touched or physically measured" eh? I see now that I am an intangible asset can't see me muhfuqa
About time From the main man himself: Para USA a partir de este fin de semana ya se transmitirá el Fut en Univision http://twitter.com/eazcarraga
so now that univision is going to be broadcasting fmf games next matchday, are they going to also show the pachuca santos estudiantes games as well? or just the televisa teams america san luis and queretaro?
I understand that Univision Communications has retained BOTH packages of Mexican League home games for the 2010 calendar year for the following clubs: From Televisa: Club America, San Luis, Queretaro Sublicensed from Azteca America: Estudiantes Tecos, Pachuca, Santos Laguna
