NEW YORK (AP) -- New England defender Carlos Llamosa was suspended for one more game and fined an additional $1,000 for being ejected in last Sunday's loss at Chicago.

Major League Soccer's disciplinary committee on Thursday suspended Llamosa for this Sunday's semifinal playoff game against Columbus. Llamosa missed the Revolution's 2-0 victory over Chicago on Wednesday under the original suspension for his actions.

this really sucks. the extra game had to have been assessed due to ref contact.

razov's suspension better go well over one match at the start of next season if this is what c.l. got.

So is Franchino also out? Being down two in the back will be a very tough break.

Can this additional suspension be appealed by Carlos?

It sucks for Carlos but I think MLS should take aggressive action about players dissing the refs. Arena recently commented that all this getting in the refs faces in MLS has to stop.

Stevie N. said Joey wouldn't miss the Columbus game in his post-match wrap. Of course, Stevie N. also once tried to convince me that Leo Cullen was an attacking midfielder because he happened to get forward during a match.

I mean, full credit to Leo for the way he's played this season, but Valderama he's not.

p.s. not saying what c.l. did was right.

All I have to say is that if Carlos is getting a extra suspension for bitching, Razov better be out of action for a month at the start of next season....

While it would be deserved, don't hold your breath waiting for the league to slap Razov with extra fines and time. MLS has not aggressively policed rough play so far.

In a game vs the Galaxy this year, after a collision in the box, Hartmann had Kyle Martino on the ground and started punching him in the face... I've never seen anything quite like it, yet his punishment was just a standard red card with one game suspension and the standard fine. Now we have Razov intentionally trying to harm an opposing player by stomping on him. MLS has to eventually decide that it will protect it's investment in it's players and send a message that this type of behavior must come to an end. If not, we may as well merge with the Mexican leagues and be done with it.

At best, Carlos knocked the flag out of the linesman's hand during his tantrum. At worst, he took a mild shove/slap at that linesman. He fully deserves his suspension, and someone with his level of experience should have known better. (Especially when he got sent off for an obvious yellow card offense). If Pierce can play with no ill effects from his groin injury then I'd start Rusty and Kante in the middle for the rest of the way.

As for Rasov, I'd hope that he gets a sizeable suspension. It must be fairly troubling to the league that two of it's better known US internationals (Rasov and Mathis) have been ejected from games in the last month for stomping on opponents who were lying on the ground.

You can guarantee this will be appealed. The linesman was the first one to put his hands on Carlos Llamosa, then the referee.

Ante Razov will probably get five games off for doing the Bristol Stomp on Jay Heaps' left groin/upper thigh.

But how quickly could an appeal be resolved? If Rusty's ready to go, it might be wiser for Llamosa & the Revs to bite the bullet and do the time. Otherwise, we could risk losing him for a later, more important game, say, a deciding game three or MLS Cup.

I believe the process is immediate, however the hearing may not be so immediate (Which could be a good thing; as in next season).

When you appeal these matters, as you know, you go into it with the belief that your position is sound.

Hence, if you present a justifiable case, you won't have to worry about losing the player in question for any future match.

Putting your hands on someone goes both ways - clearly, it was the linesman and ref who initiated the contact.

I'm releaved to hear this. I was really surprized that Llamosa would lose control sufficiently to push an official. If the official initiated the contact and Carlos pushed back to defend himself--the extra game suspension should be recinded.

ALLOW ME TO VENT:----You know I'm still pissed with the way that game was officiated. Ratboy doesn't even get a card for stomping on Heaps on the ground allowing him to repeat the behavior in the third game. The PK call was bogus and the goal was probibly offsides. All game the Revs were being called for non fouls and even being carded for some. That officiating crew lost control of the match and clearly were officiating in a very uneven manner and were clearly biased to the home side. We won the series but the poor officiating from that match is carrying over and the cards given in that match will have a major impact on the Crew series. END VENT

Unless we know that the appeal won't happen this year, I'd agree with Feldspar and bite the bullet now. Aside from Pierce's on again/off again status, Joey and Kante are both a card away from sitting. This could be the least painful game to have Carlos miss.

Also of interest are Daniel Hernandez' comments that (main official) Valenzuela was actually baiting the New England players during the Chicago game. If true, very unprofessional.

As far as the Llamosa appeal goes - well...

It was a stupid move by Carlos and he should no better. The Mls just needs to start giving fines/suspensions to everyone equally.

If the appeal system works anything like baseball, they'd be likely to appeal in order to allow him to play in the 1st game at home, then withdraw the appeal and serve the suspension in Columbus and be available for the 3rd (if necessary) game at home.

Having all the troops available for the home games is the critical thing for this series.

That's definitely what Hernandez said: "He was trash-talking to me all game. He's known for that, you can ask any player around the league."

If that is the case, then it cuts both ways. They should have a serious "attitude adjustment" discussion with Valenzuela. I remember a few years ago this was a similar issue in baseball, where some of the umpires were said to have gotten way out of hand with personal grudges with players, etc. I don't really follow baseball any more, so I have no idea what, if anything was done.

Doug Chapman was noting the same thing during his broadcast.

None of us can say whether or not this is true as we werent on the field, but just to clarify: Doug Chapman did not "say the same thing" during the broadcast. He said - often - that the referee was talking to the New England players a lot. That's an entirely different thing from saying he was "trash-talking" to them.

This just in: Revs and Llamosa WILL NOT appeal the one-game suspension.

Captain Franchino, aka The Picture Of Restraint, will play Sunday - the info conveyed in the Globe and on television was INCORRECT.

Valenzuela has the reputation of being an antagonist and loves to goad players. Reportedly, he said to Johnny Torres the following last season after he missed the goal wide, "You call that a shot? I'm going put a jersey on and I'll show you a shot."

Llamosa can't stand the guy. Valenzuela's the one that gave the Fusion the two red cards in succession in a match against San José last year. Unfortunately for the Fusion, the one to Diego Serna was overturned the very next day, but the final result was upheld. According to Llamosa, it was the biggest mistake in MLS history.

According to several players, he's constantly goading players with his comments during the run of play.

    4th official

Correct me if I am wrong, but it sure looked like Brian Hall was the 4th official at Wednesday's game. How could the MLS let Valenzuela ref a crucial game between two recognized antagonists when they have a FIFA world class ref with world cup experience hang on the side line.

SN was yelling at Hall all evening, questioning how Valenzuela could continue with the non-calls against the Fire and the mystery calls against the Revs.

I believe Hall was being held back to do Game 1 of the semi-finals REVS v CREW.

The bottom line is that no one outside of the two captains should say a word to the officials.

MLS should have zero tolerance policy for talking to the officials. The mandate should be immediate yellow cards, fines and suspensions to any player who approaches the official after a call.

I am not saying that the MLS referees are of any high standard,.....but I am convinced that an officials performance is diminished when 22 players are endlessly jawing at him.

This would require the players to take the first step. Players have to keep there mouths shut and play. An official will perform better without the distraction of a Daniel Hernandez, Tab Ramos, Graziani, Peter Nowak, etc. contsantly in his face after every call.
