For me, it is Stevie's goal in the dying moments of the FA Cup Final. Of course Istanbul is my favorite match and the Champions League Trophy is much more prestigious than the FA Cup. But the feeling I had in my stomach as I watched the final seconds tick away followed by the rush I felt as I watched an exhausted, limping Gerrard fire an absolute rocket past the keeper has not been matched by any other sporting moment in my life. Olympiakos was a very similar situation, and also had a tremendous impact on the history of the club.

Also, I think you need to look no further than this list of the decades greatest moments to realize the impact our captain has had on Liverpool. He truly has provided me with some unbelievable moments.

If Istanbul was one moment, I would have picked it. But being as it wasn't it was between 3 moments for me...

    Gerrard's strike v. Olympiakos
    Gerrard's strike v. West Ham
    Mellor's strike v. Arsenal

I picked Mellor's strike. Though all 3 are unforgettable, Mellor's was unreal. We had no business beating that Arsenal team. And Mellor had no business scoring or attempting to shoot from that range. Who did he think he was? Gerrard? :D

"Mellor!!!!!! My goodness! Where did that come from? The right foot of Neil Mellor! That may have been the last kick of the game!"

Truth be told. All of the above moments (w/ commentary) give me the chills when watching them.

I choose Alonso's goalbut my choice would of been fowlers goal and the og in the UEFA final in 2001. When Fowler scored i somehow crushed my pint glass through the adrenalin rush. I cut myself pretty bad and needed a few stiches but we didnt leave the bar till after the final whistle.

Istanbul was a different matter as everything is really hazy about that night. I watched that game in a Birmingham bar and got very very drunk while we where getting hammered. The next day my g/f at the time drove me down to Liverpool for the busride

I voted for Dudeks save since that was the moment when the fairy tale became reality.

Alonsos goal was my actual favorite moment though, but even that was tied with Cara making a diving tackle, cramping up, standing back up on stiff wooden legs and promptly making another diving tackle. Pure class.

And the FA cupper was magnificent as well.

    I agree

    1. All of Istanbul. I would add in addition to Carra's incredible effort, Stevie G playing fullback for the last 15 minutes in a 5 man back line just holding on.

    2. West Ham

    3. Olympikos

    4. Danny Murphy against the Scum 1-0 16 December 2000

    5. Garry Mac

Wow. It's funny to see all the different opinions on this. Good stuff.

    My Top 5.
    5. Owen's FA Cup winner - 01 FA Cup Final
    4. Gerrard camera kiss vs. Mancs - April 09
    3. Gerrard FA Cup equalizer - 06 FA Cup Final
    2. Garcia's volley over Buffon - 05 CL QF 1st Leg

It was the first time that I truly believed that - no matter what - this team was going to do something special. Amazing moment

    1. Final Whistle vs. Chelsea - 05 CL SF 2nd Leg AND Garcia Goal in same game.
I think you guys are sleeping on these two as a package deal. I'm never watched a game on TV that had so much electric energy. The way that the crowd pops after the goal and then final whistle are just amazing. I don't think I've screamed that loud at the TV before or since. :)

I agree that Garcia's volley was a major omission form the list.

I added this one because I saw it in a pub in Edinburgh and it was on my 50th birthday.

The four Scots in the pub thought this Yank was mad the way I screamed when the ball went in

I think it's tough to vote on some of the moments, because they impact people different ways, but also because like some have pointed out...these games have multiple moments that stick in people's minds forever.

Neil Mellor sticks out for me because he was the 22nd biggest name on the pitch that night...he had about as much business as scoring as Dudek had in making that double save...his shot was one Gerrard takes, but not Neil effin Mellor...Plus it was Arsenal when they had some hateable players like Lehmann and Viera. I just remember that was one of the few League matches I got to watch that year, and I was going bananas.

Neil Mellor was/is an average footballer, which makes it a lot easier for supporters to identify with him. He looks like someone you would see on the Kop rather than scoring in front of it!

This thread has been a nice pick me up since recent faltering...Despite this current "drought" we are going through, LFC has had some great moments from this past decade!

Actually my personal favorite was Vlad Smicer against Chelsea for a 1-0 win in stoppage time because it was the day I brought my son to Anfield. We walked out singing "Feeling Vlad all over"

    All of them. :D

Just goes to show we who love Liverpool have had a pretty good time of it overall the last ten years...

I voted for Alonso's goal in Istanbul. W/out that we don't need Carra's heroics or Jerzy's ridiculous double save on Schevchenko.

I had buried my Dad the previous week and my brother and I watched it together before I flew back to Kansas City the next day.

When Neil Mellor scored, we both said "that was for Dad" -- who had never got over the FA Cup Final loss to Arsenal in 1950. He hated Arsenal almost as much as Everton (he lived in Liverpool 75 years and never stepped foot in Goodison and slapped me on the head for going there to watch an England schoolboy match there!)

Wish he'd been alive to see the Istanbul miracle

    Istanbul 2005. Easy.

    Or specifically the deciding penalty.

But then..another big moment could be Heskey scoring for Liverpool, as his goals is a rarity nowadays for whatever team he's playing for LOL

    This was an awesome game.

I had mysterious stomach cramps that kept me home during that afternoon of high school so I could watch the game live.

I still have the VHS tape of the game.

Hyypia had a nice goal, and then he was outdone by Lil Luis...

    Luis Garcia, He drinks Sangria

I found this sweet LFC Compilation of last season though, there were some epic games last season. The season we had lots of comebacks and last minute goals...

I'll go with Garcia's goal vs Chel$ki. Just to stick it to those bastards. Especially Moroniho.

Honestly though, they all gave me chills.

The counter-attack goal by Owen in the 2001 FA Cup Final was a sweet moment. All game I had been getting stick by my mates who I was watching it with in a pub, they supported Man U, Everton and Arsenal so were all desperately hoping for Arsenal to win. They were rubbing in the fact that we were losing and under the cosh. All I kept saying was that Owen was clinical and he only needed one chance and then Bang 1-1. Then a pass upfield and Owen outpaces Keown (or Dixon) and slots it home far corner. What a moment that was!

The greatest moment this decade though was Dudek saving the Sheva pen in Istanbul. A legendary moment for the club and the greatest moment in my Liverpool FC supporting years. To get to that moment we had to overcome more powerful, more fancied teams in Chelsea, Juve and AC Milan. An impossible task but we did it and Dudek's save was the culmination of that journey. To reach that point after being 3-0 down to a superb AC Milan side was truly an inspirational night in the history of football. The Miracle of Istanbul created legends that night.

I missed both those goals though. I did not watch the second half of the Olympiakos game due to other commitments. For the FA Cup Final, I was watching the game in the pub. I went to the toilet twice in the second half and missed about 2 minutes total of the football but missed both of Gerrard's goals! I knew that we had scored though because there were cheers but muted ones (most folks in the pub wanted the underdog West Ham to win).
