gutless, gutless liverpool... everyone is gonna be calling for houllier's head after the tie w/wolves, and i think if liverpool loses to newcastle saturday, he's out. and should be, because it's easier to change 1 manager than 11 players. that said, when you blow a 1-nil lead to the worst team in the league in the final minute, it's not about the manager, it's not about tactics, it's not about formation, and it's not about lineup decisions. it's about the players on the pitch not having the balls to see through what should have been a guaranteed 3 points. bitch about houllier all you want, but THAT is not his fault. and while i realize that dumping either/both would lead to a quick slide down the ladder, owen is invisible, gerrard has scored one premiership goal over the past calendar year, and both are china dolls who are in and out of the lineup like a football version of the hokey-pokey. THAT latter fact is nobody's fault, but it's certainly not houllier's fault. owen and gerrard are great, but not THAT great, not right now, and they are certainly not beyond criticism. when houllier does get fired, remember that. he's paying for his sins, yeah, but also for the collective sins of players who don't have the balls to get 3 points against wolves when leading by a goal at the game's death. liverpool are a gutless football team right now, chock-full of players who are happy to wear the shirt but not concerned enough to break a sweat while doing so.
If he get's sacked, it'll be because he didn't put together a team that had the mental stamina and (edit) the team spirit to withstand it. There's plenty of talent here, but as much as it's the players job to do well on the pitch, it's the manager's job to raise team spirit and motivate his players to get the job done AS A TEAM (look at Jimmy Johnson with the Cowboys). There's an equal amount of blame to place between the team and Houllier.
The 1-1 result against the worst team in the Premiership just doesn't cut it, especially giving up the lead in the final minute. This is why we're not in the top 4 at the moment, and if things don't pick up very soon, we'll have to spend another season wasting away in the UEFA Cup, falling further behind the likes of Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea.
theres definitely no excuse for the tie today, there is no reason that liverpool should lose that lead to wolves, especially in the last minute, you have to play from whistle to whistle, not just until it gets close to the 90 min mark. they didnt do that today and everybody can see what happened
V. Poor I am very very low at the moment. This draw hurts more than some of our losses. For some reason it hurts more than the Man City draw. Maybe it's because it was "only Wolves", maybe it's because we had a full strength team for a change, certainly losing a last minute lead (again) doesn't help. Desperate times.
I'm surprised you got a point... Do you guys remember who Wolves last opponent was, and what the result was? I saw Wolves play Man Utd, and I thought that if Wolves could produce another performance like that you guys would have a hard time escaping with any points today. Houlier certainly has made some bad moves, but you did not play the worst team in the premiership today. You've got a couple big players back, and you still have a shot at 4th place, so I would wait and see how the next few games go, and not get all worked up because you didn't take three points from these tenacious wolves' den... mark madden's original post here called liverpool "gutless"--that's not something you can say about wolves these days.
%!@#$ I just got home from a long day of classes-most of them with the same incredibly annoying fellow student, and a very subpar dinner (cooked by yours truly) to find out we can't even feckin' beat Wolves! Then I read about how GH had Heskey on the right, and Owen all by his lonesome up front. What kind of chicken *#*#*#*#*# tactic is that??? Maybe i read it wrong, but it sure doesn't seem like the way one should play against the bottom team in the table. We'll be lucky to be in the Inter-toto Cup at this rate.
Re: gutless, gutless liverpool... Much of what you say is perfectly valid, but the reality is that we lost two points to the fact that Stephane Henchoz and Steve Finnan left Miller unmarked in the box following a partial clearance. That's not balls, that just basic bloody positioning. Anyway ... Six Nation's starts soon. Never been much of a football man in any case.
You weren't playing Leeds. But yes, your team is s.h.i.t. and your manager is a bug-eyed numpty... better get shot of him quick.
"Big Soccer Addicts" should know better than to troll. Post something intelligent or bugger off to your own rarely used boards.
I'm not trolling. I was correcting the error made by ScouseCat. 655321? How do you sign on every month with a name like that?
I can't believe it. Four points from Man United and Liverpool and Wolves fans think their team is Real Madrid. Enjoy the honeymoon period while it lasts, because the only opponents Wolves terrorize next season will be in the first division.
I'm glad you guys have at least a couple of good memories to take with you to the first division next season, but a Wolves fan trying to make fun of LFC is pretty rich. Learn your teams place, then come back to us.
Whoever said we think we're great. No Wolves fan thinks we're "Real Madrid" We just think you're shlt. And we're right. I thought scousers were supposed to be witty and all that? Judging from the replies I bet hardly one if any of you have even been to Liverpool.
Born and raised in Liverpool. More to the point, I spent 3 crappy years in the sh!t hole known as Wolves at the prestigious Wolves Poly. I know where I'd rather live and it isn't friggin' Wolves. BTW, if location is a big concern, why not reveal yours? Or is Milton Keynes too hard for you to spell?
Not talking about where everyone lives, I'm talking about how many of you have actualy been to a match. And coming from Liverpool you can hardly slag Wolverhampton.
