    -----------Kirkland
    Josemi---Carragher--Hyppia--Traore
    Garcia---Biscan---Alonso---Riise
    -----------Kewell
    ------------Mellor
    Bench:
    Dudek
    Hamann
    Finnan
    Baros
    Warnock

The lineup depends on wheather or not Baros will be fit. He is still a doubt to play so I put him on the bench. If Milan is fit, I would try both him and Mellor up front. Its about time Igor gets a chance in a league game. I would rather Finnan than Josemi, but Rafa will most likely stick with Josemi for now.

    No excuses, 3 points.

Agreed on Suss's comments on the lineup and the issue with Baros. I also think Biscan should get a start. Didi's been moving rather slowly the last few games.

And as they are not showing the game on FSW live, they are showing it at 3 p.m. Eastern saturday afternoon. I will be watching.

Carling cup prize money for LAST season (03/04):

    Winners
    £100,000
    Runners up
    £50,000
    Losing Semi-Finalists
    £25,000

Plus £100,000 per televised match except for the final, which pays no tv money.

If we win it all that comes to a grand total of roughly £600,000, using last years figures. Not really a lot of money when another striker is going to cost Liverpool £8-10 million or more.

I expect a different team sheet. First I think that a midfield of Alonso and EyeGor is a dangerous proposition -- both ways. Biscan looked good last night because he had an out and out holding midfielder behind him. Diao really played well in a remit to protect the centre halves and not get forward. I can't see wasting Xabi to do that for EyeGor. I expect the sheet to look like this:

    -------CK
    Josemi---SH--JC---D-jimmy
    Finnan--XA--Didi----JAR
    --------Garcia
    ------Baros

    Dudek
    Biscan
    Diao
    Kewell
FSP (or Mellor if the leg cramps from last night hold him back)

Garcia over Kewell due to the statements Rafa has made about Harry's need to improve his fitness.

well, i think that alonso has to get used to getting into a more defensive position now since Gerrard is back in a WEEK!!!!!yea!!!cant wait for that!!I mean, rafa has to find the balance between attack and defence!!Alonso is great, but not as good as gerrard!I would love to see them both attack when the team attacks and both defend when they are being attacked!!And there is no reason why the cant do the same with Biscan and Alonso! And in your lineup, i would rather see Garcia in the right and mellor up-front with Baros, since we all know that the 4-4-1-1 formation has just given us to many problems!!!

    Well, where does one start?

Biscan is not Stevie G. Please write that on the blackboard one hundred times. Xabi and Stevie can and will attack and defend interchangeably but I don't see the same happening with Bisquit.

I don't see Mellor and Baros as a pairing that Rafa will play any time soon. I will admit that your plan is one that concentrates on attack, but poor Josemi will be under desperate attack everytime Palace sees the ball as there will be no one defending in front of him.

but ofcourse i am thinking in an attacking frame of mind!!we are at ANFIELD for god sake!!!!we cant get frightened by the loss we had this week against birmingham!!!we have to play the same way as before !!!and do u realy think the solution to Josemi dreadful defending is by putting another defender in the right???Its like saying¨Lets put another Center Back in the midfield to give the CB Backup!!!i would belive you if we were against a top side like chelski, milan or inter ,but how can we go into the game against crystal palace in that frame of mind!!??

Palace have been playing much better of late, but we've destroyed the other two newly promoted teams at Anfield, and hopefully we'll do the same again.

My point was not that Josemi was a bad defender, but that anyone in that position would need some help in front if Garcia is the wing. Garcia is a oneway player who drifts toward the middle leaving any fullback isolated if he (Garcia) is played out on the wing.
