This will be the start of a really intense and exciting run of fixtures. A run that we will face with our second choice goalkeeper. Upcoming games: Chelsea-EPL Leipzig away-Champs League Arsenal away-EPL Brighton away-League Cup Brighton-EPL Leverkusen- Champs League Villa-EPL International Break As long as we can make our home advantage count, I think we can come out of this run of games in a really strong position.
we'll need a healthy and energetic squad to get through that line-up. Hopefully no injuries during the international break
Virgil and Mo will be well rested for the Chelsea game, as will Curtis. the others? too soon to say. I read that when Lucho was subbed off the other day he "looked exhausted" - not encouraging. Mac sat the Argie first game, hopefully same with the next. Robbo and Grav looks like they'll get 2 x 90mins. hopefully Gakpo will sit.
I probably shouldn’t mention that after the international break Madrid and City come to Anfield in the same week.
vs Chelsea Kell Trent Ibou Virg Tsimi Grav Jones Dom Mo Jota Diaz bunch of assumptions: - Robbo on the bench coz (I believe) he'll be playing tonight - Mac not 100% plus Jones is back - no late-breaking news about injuries - no more players being ill (Endo not playing got Japan today coz he's ill)
Lynch said Chiesa would be fit and available to play against Chelsea. I wonder if any one of them starts the game on Sunday.
doubt Chiesa starts but would really like to see him get mins to rest Mo. Fedo to start in midweek I think. BTW Hi Brendan, welcome to the site.
Arne Slot and Enzo Maresca have benefited from relatively settled defences throughout their impressive starts to life at Liverpool and Chelsea, with the former boasting the best defensive record in the Premier League at present, but both face disruption to their backlines for what should be a revealing contest at Anfield. The visitors will be without the suspended Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella after each collected a fifth booking of the season in the feisty draw with Nottingham Forest before the international break. Mohamed Salah’s duel with Renato Veiga, Cucurella’s potential replacement at left-back, could be intriguing. Liverpool’s loss is limited to one, but a hugely influential one nonetheless, with Alisson sidelined until after November’s international break with his second hamstring injury of the campaign. Caoimhín Kelleher proved an able deputy in the wins over Bournemouth and West Ham, as the Republic of Ireland international usually does, and possesses the temperament to put Sunday’s mistake against Greece immediately behind him.
Slot pregame presser ... "Alisson is for sure not with us in upcoming weeks, that's a blow for him and us, he did really well for this club for so many years. Caoimh did well for us previous years and this year, so we have a good replacement. We've got quite some issues and we can only judge that from today as it's the first day they are all in. Macca missed one game, played the second. Kostas miss England...I can name them all and we have a few issues, so we will see. Endo was sick, we will see." "If you look at the table it is [the toughest challenge]. Man Utd is a top club and spent a lot, same fotr Chelsea in this season but they have done really well. League table, they are the toughest [so far] but it is not always about the table, we had some troubles at Wolves too, but it is a challenge, for sure. "Very important [to be good defensively]. If you want to achieve something we need to be stable defensively, we have done that so far. Now we face even better players. Chelsea, like United, have a lot of great players and we have to control that as a team but we also have to create our own chances too. Good thing is we have players who can score. An interesting game on Sunday." "Not up to me to comment on Chelsea's approach, they were successful in 2nd half of last season. If a team does that it is a good forecast for what you can expect the next season and they got some new players and a good manager in, so it is no surprise to see their results. A young team, is the first thing I see, on long-term contracts. Quality, criticism come in recent years but where they are now, they are a big threat for top 3 or 4 positions and they will be in the upcoming years."
I'll have to miss the Chelsea match as I'll be on a long (14 hour) flight, but Hopefully watching the replay will make the next segment, an 11 hour layover, pass enjoyably!
This doesn’t quite fit here, but it’s not the worst place to put it. The marvellous Adam Clery again. Why Liverpool should be taken seriously as contenders this season.
Wife and I are off to the Maldives to celebrate our 35th anniversary. Miami to Dubai, then after that 11 hour layover, a four hour flight to Male, then a domestic flight to Koodoo, then a speedboat ride to the resort. I hope it's worth it!
