I’ll take three points, two goals and a clean sheet any time. Jones and Wirtz seem to several very well, by the way. Amazing that a couple of weeks ago we’d have leaked two or three goals, mostly by waving people though; we still are and at some point, Slot will realise he’ll have to drop McAlister for just being non-productive.
Mo lives to break records. He will be delighted he did it today but also pissed that he didn't score as well.
I think it says a lot that Jones is being played alongside Gravenberch, when that absolutely should be Macca’s role under normal circumstances. I think Slot has finally realized that Mac Allister no longer has the legs. I don’t think he contributed much of anything today. As I said before, even Chiesa would have offered more.
2 similar entertaining games. 4 goals 2 clean sheets. 6 points. I went to watch it at a friends place. Nice early morning drive up a windy road along a river as the sun was rising. At one point on a narrow section i found myself herding about 50/60 Elk Big buggers either side of the car. They were not going to be rushed. Wonderful you can still see that around here. Steve the friend has just had a knee replacement and was looking for company so Ive watched the last three games at his place. Always good for a free breakfast and a win.
Ekitike keeps proving why he needs to be the starter up front. Slot dropping him for Isak and also not playing Chiesa continues to baffle me.
The only thing I can think of other than Slot just being stubborn is that his 2nd ACL just robbed him of the ability to be more than a cameo player at the highest level
I wondered that after we took him on. He couldn’t get a game for love or money. Now when we need him he’s showing as a willing player with talent.
And suddenly we are in sixth place...10 points behind Arsenal - who did not look good today (needed Wolves to score two own-goals to pick up their three points today) Maybe this season isn't quite over yet...
Two weeks in row we a have a full week between matches. This is a crucial time for Slot to implement a system on the training pitch. Salah is gone, so it’s now or never to figure out how all of these pieces fit together.
In a game where ALL of our midfielders started, the one who stood out above the rest is the Scouser in the team. Curtis Jones vs Brighton (H) - 13/12/25 pic.twitter.com/flFGVNZMpr— ʟꜰ✾¹⁷ (@LukFloes) December 13, 2025
After watching the match highlights again, I think Brighton was lucky to go in only 1-0 down at half time, this being a response to my earlier observations that we could have drawn 2-2!
Curtis has been a standout for us the last few games. His ability to retain possession , under a lot of pressure, and find a pass in tight areas is superb. Right now I'd say he, Wirtz and Hugo are the three key players in making "Slot 2.0" click. But please Curtis cool it with the multiple twists and turns in our box!!!!
Will def play the Midfield Diamond and give Wirtz a free role to roam on the left and play on the tip. Without Salah it’s make or break for Isak and I’m expecting him to come good he always has a better Season in the second half so fingers crossed Can’t wait for Frimpong to be back too he will be crucial to this system being implemented well. ……..Hugo………Isak……….. …………….Wirtz……………… …..Jones………Dom…………. ………….Grav………………… Kerkez………………Frimpong ……….Ibou…..VVD…………..
In looking at a lot of the positioning in those clips it looked like LFC were playing almost a box-4 in midfield yesterday. Jones and Gravenberch were more deep, with Wirtz and MacAllister futher forward. It was pretty fluid and so occasionally looked more like a diamond if either MacAllister or Wirtz pushed up into a central position (mostly this was MacAllister who was doing this, while Wirtz often pushed up to the left or occasionally up to the right). What is interesting is that while nominally we were set up in a 4-2-3-1, it looked to me like Szoboszlai had a lot of freedom to roam up and down the right side, independently of the other midfielders... Sometimes he was back helping defend alongside Gravenberch and Gomez, and at other times he was giving width and cutting in from wide areas in the attack on the right side. Once Gomez went off and Salah came in he was mostly placed back as RB and didn't roam as freely as in the first 20-25 minutes. It'll be interesting to see if we keep with this new midfield system. I'm guessing they are trying to use this to overcome some of the lack of control we've had in central midfield recently. It should give us 4-2 and 4-3 overloads in midfield depending on opposition setups (whether they are playing 4-4-2 or 3-4-2-1 [4-2], or 4-3-3 [4-3])
A win! On top of that, things that were good: Salah did put in a little more defensive effort Played well - Ekitike, Jones, Sobozslai, Gomez Everyone else at least OK Wirtz gets his own mention - great on and off the ball Kop sang Salah song ..... immediately followed by Slot song - great message to both!
