It is sad how panicked I was that we might need to beat Brentford at home on the final day. Thank you to Erling Haaland for scoring a goal that did nothing for City but everything for Liverpool.
Maybe the need to get a result is what's needed to wash away a lot of the recent negativity and have everyone focused on what's important ... I hope. edit: what's crazy is if we win, and Villa lose to City -- it's PG's last game, plus Villa play the Europa Final tomorrow so they could be either (a) still hungover after winning it or (b) demoralized from losing -- then we end up in 4th place.
Even if we lose 3-0, and Bournemouth wins 3-0, we would finish above them on the second tiebreaker, goals scored.
So, just to be clear - LFC have qualified for next season's Champion's League - correct? We are currently in fifth place with 59 points with one game to play The only team that can catch us is Bournemouth, with 56 points and an inferior goal differential With Aston Villa's win in the Europa League today, they automatically qualify, meaning that both fifth and sixth from the EPL will qualify - correct? BUT...if we win on Sunday and Aston Villa lose, we will finish in fourth place Just win baby!
we haven't not yet officially qualified. The goal difference can be flipped - but we have a nice margin.
why is that? Some ruling on the 5th team co-efficient position? If it gets taken by another team then it moves down one. Silly set-up, really, considering that the top 5 teams are still the same ones if Villa finish 4th
I wouldn’t blame Slot if we wanted to bench Salah, but hopefully he does not so that he can get a proper send off. Mamar Frimpong Konate Virgil Robertson Gravenberch Szoboszlai Wirtz Salah Isak Rio
Kind of shoot yourself in the foot thing to do to not play him. he is currently in need of pleasing the crowd - not of further alienating them.... is Allison Becker fit?
Salah put Slot in a damn if you do and damn if you don't type of situation. So might as well play him.
I think he'd be crazy not to start Mo - why start the game off with bad feelings, or at minimum a huge distraction? This headline is a bit eye-popping but I think the key sentence is the one I underlined. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cvgzvnqzvryo Arne Slot has refused to confirm whether Mohamed Salah will play a part at Anfield on Sunday, in what would be his last appearance for Liverpool. In a social media post last weekend, Salah called for Liverpool to change their style of play in what came across as an attack on their football under manager Slot. The Reds great will leave the club this summer after nine years at Anfield. "I never say anything about team selection," said Slot, when asked about Salah's involvement against Brentford, a game in which Liverpool need a point to confirm Champions League qualification. Earlier this season, Salah, 33, was left out of the squad for a Champions League game away to Inter Milan after saying in an interview that his relationship with Slot had broken down. Asked how he felt about the Egypt forward's comments, Slot said: "I don't think it is that important what I feel about it. What is important is that we qualify for the Champions League on Sunday and I prepare Mo and the whole team in the best possible way for the game. "I was very disappointed after our loss against Villa because a win would have given us qualification for the Champions League which we didn't get. Now there's one game to go which is a vital one for us as a club. "We both want what's best for the club, we both want the club to be successful and that's the main aim. "I have to find a way to evolve this team now and definitely in the summer and in the upcoming season to be successful again, and to play a brand of football that I like. And if I like it then the fans will like it as well because I haven't liked a lot of the way we played this season. "But we try to evolve the team in a way that we can compete but definitely also play the brand of football, the style of football the fans, I, and hopefully Mo if he's somewhere else at that moment in time will like as well." Slot was also defensive when asked whether Salah's comments about Liverpool needing to recover their identity undermined his authority. "You are doing a lot of assumptions. First of all you say that he wants to play that style and then say it is not my style," he said. "I think Mo was really happy with the style we played last year as it lead to us winning the league. Football has changed, football has evolved, but we both want what is best for Liverpool and that is for us to compete for trophies, which we haven't done this season and we which we did last season. "He and the team – and I was included in that – brought the league title back after five years and we would like to challenge for that again next season and continue to evolve the team. That is my take on it." Asked what he thought about other Liverpool players liking and commenting on Salah's post, Slot said: "Social media came when I was a little bit older, so as people know I'm not really involved. I don't really know what it exactly means if you 'like' a post. "What I know, and that is my world, is to see how they train and I have not seen anything different compared to the rest of the season."
If Slot doesn’t play the greatest winger in this history of the league let alone club in his final game…well, I can’t imagine how that’ll go over at Anfield
If so the squad we'll be building from in August will likely be: Mama, Woodman Virgil, Jacket, Kerk, Frimpong (Tsimi?) Dom, Grav, Mac*, Jones* Nyoni Rio, Cody, Isak, Chiesa* Still injured - Hugo, Bradley, Endo* Leoni * players rumoured / speculated / expected to be on their way out. Hope to God I've missed a few
I'm hoping for Ali it's not true (and Joe) - Salah and Andy are getting a sendoff at the AXA today - nothing for Joe, Alisson, or Ibou
Ali and Joe could leave in the summer transfer window I guess. Plenty of rumours. Hope they don't - how much (more) bloody turnover can a team deal with? Same with Ibou - his social media a few weeks back seemed like he was picking up the pen to re-sign. Weird.
Jaros (who I rate) will be back and I’d assume the be the #2, although Freddie’s been faultless I believe I read Tsimi will also be back - which is awesome. I think the locker room could have used him this season.
