If Brighton fail to win at Leeds and Bournemouth lose at home to Manchester City, Liverpool will qualify for the Champions League before kickoff. In any other scenario Liverpool will be left sweating it out on the final day. If Bournemouth get 3 points against City, Liverpool will need to win to guarantee their spot in next season’s Champions League. It will be Mohammed Salah’s final game for Liverpool. That is if he even plays after attacking the manager on social media. It will be Andy Robertson’s final game for Liverpool. We could end up saying goodbye to Allison Becker and Curtis Jones as well. Most of the crowd at Anfield will be hoping that it is Arne Slot’s last game managing Liverpool, which would have been unthinkable this time last year when we were celebrating a league title with him.
I think we are going to need to win this game regardless of points scenario's. I mean show some effing fight and passion. Show that we're even remotely worthy of a CL spot cos after looking at recent performances its hard to believe we still have a chance.
Leeds win, we are really going to make CL, lol. We have a guardian angel watching over us this season.....
With all the off-field drama and the current state of the club, I expect a draw at best. Start Mo, Robbo & Rio, f the rest. I hope and pray this is Slot's last match too.
This match is going to garner a lot of media attention, for all the wrong reasons. Ugh. Not looking forward to it. Wish there could be separate, proper send-off for Salah and Robertson, et al.
It's been a long, damn season so I'm a bit at wit's end on a lot of fronts. Plus the news of Alonso going to Chelsea has been a giant kick to bollocks.
In this present universe as things have played out, I’m 90+% certain there were or are precious few chances that would ever have seen Alonso in the dugout at Anfield. Had FSG or whoever pulled the plug on Slot and if Alonso had been completely free, he still wouldn’t have been appointed. IMO. Anfield have had the chance twice and each time they’ve not gone forward. Under Mike Gordon, Richard Hughes, Michael Edwards et al., Alonso doesn’t make the grade.
It's really interesting as well. Is it as simple as Alonso wants more control like Klopp - and Edwards / Hughes don't want that?
I suspect that’s a huge part of it. Though something I’ve heard now and again: great for a Leverkusen or a Villa, maybe even United ( ), not ready for the jump just yet for the real elite.
Madrid was playing fine - but he lost the player power battle. Which was always going to be the case.
Here we go. All the media boffins are having a field day with Slot v Mo. What a circus this is going to be.
That goal by Citeh really late guarantees us Champions League football, unless we lose goal difference, and we're up by 6 goals right now.
