A game that will be remembered for one thing, and it's not one of the superb goals we scored. Dom will never ever live that mistake down. Absolute arrogance to do what he did and totally disrespectful to a team that did nothing to deserve it. Should be ashamed of himself.
Job done, but as so many have said, Slot's overusing his preferred players. His man management is bewildering.
More than a bit harsh, Sam. Never, ever? Sure it was a bone headed thing to do. In the end it didn't hurt the team. We won, we advanced. Allison in his first year or two had a couple of bone headed plays (trying to deke their forwards) that resulted in goals, too. They're barely remembered. Had Dom done this against a rival and we lost the game, sure, we'd always remember it. A 3rd round cup game against league 1 Barnsley (a game we won 4-1)? Nah. And Dom's been by far our best player this season. He made a mistake. That's all. Certainly not something he will "never ever live down".
Also - it was a mess up of skill, if he had done it right (maybe a less tired leg) I guarantee folks would be wowing his poise.... But as I also say, don;t try to be Zidane or Ronaldhino if you are not Zidane or Ronaldhino!!
it's odd - beacuse he was very quick 4 years ago.... definitely didn;t recover from his injury the same....
OK - another win...well done, even though we left it kinda late The baffling things for me are: 1) Why Slot has no confidence in putting out the kids 2) Why he has slowed our play down so much and 3) Why we have so much trouble breaking down the low block Hint to # 3 might be in the goals Dom and Jeremie scored today...from some distance
1. His job is on the line, we are already out of Carling Cup, some players need to play themselves into shape. 2. Players need to take a major part of that blame. Lack of confidence and blame game. They are scared to be the one to make the mistake, so they pass to a supposedly safer option. 3. I see so many runs being ignored, for a safer option, drives me crazy. They do not shoot enough!!!!!! Dom has a God giving gift that he continually fails to put into good use, lol. I hope that Fulham 2nd spurs him into shooting more when the chance presents. Same for Jeremy and Cody has stopped shooting because of critics. I blame Slot for the conditioning, we might not win the League but we are still a good team and will get much better.
I'd go along with most of that. But Bradley's injury, I think, makes it imperative to buy a CB before Jan ends - as it puts a strain on our back-up Joe Gomez. Might as well go big after Guehi now IMO.... Th eItalian kid getting injured is turning out to be a big deal
I like Brentford's Michael Kayode, he is fast, physical, combative and his long thow-ins are potent. Something we can add to our team.
Point 2 - Seems Dom didn't get the memo. Point 3 - Cody hasn't stopped shooting? He hasn't stopped at all, he just gets blocked every time. He is amazingly predictable, same move to his right, then another, then shoot. Almost never varies the type of shot, or tries a last-second pass instead when the 2-3 defenders are lined up in front of him. Players responsible for lack of confidence? Not for me - it's part of the manager's job to instill that. TBH what I'm seeing is a bunch of players who (more and more imo) are overcoached -- they are second-guessing their instinctive moves, both with and without the ball, trying to recall "what am I supposed to do in this situation"?
The annoying thing about Gakpo is that practically every time he is running out of options and goes left (1 in 15) he gets to the byline and does a dangerous ground cut-back. What would be wrong with doing that a little further upfield and then crossing with his left into the air? Surely a professional should be able to at least cross a lofted ball with their weak foot?
