Hard to put a tag on this team's "style" as yet - but not a surprise coz nobody knows what our best 11 / formation is (including Arne). it's getting closer though, based on last night, and we have (I think) 5 more games to bed things in more before the next damn International break. a couple of times last night Wirtz moved to the right of the pitch - more than his other games so far - and his linking with Mo was very crisp. hope to see more of that, we need him to be available across the whole width.
Mo's freekick was nothing to write home about, lucky it deflected in. I think going foward, he needs to defer to Dom and Florian.
I’ve looked at it a few times and I’m finding it difficult to decide was it poor or clever? I don’t for one moment think he intended to pinball it off Robertson, but I wonder if it was some plan to play it short, just beyond the wall to the nearest Liverpool player because the set piece coaches had noticed a flaw in Atletico’s set up for such free kicks? It’s quite possible, but I doubt we’ll ever know precisely. Having said that, if it was intended, it still wasn’t the best taken kick/pass I’ve ever seen.
I'm not sure there is such a thing as a "best 11" anymore for Liverpool but rather its more iust a "best 11 for this specific game" . And that will change from game to game based on opposition , the competition we're playing in , the freshness /fitness of a player etc etc. I think our squad can quite easily interchange players in most positions and not be significantly weaker.
There have been plenty of teams that didn't have a 'style' that won games/trophies just because they were better (see the recent madrid run of trophies). This isn't Pep style possession at barca or citeh. This isn't Klopp style heavy metal. This isn't Arteta style conservatism With us, right now, it simply seems to be "we want to attack and score goals and win games" (with a bit more nuance, obviously).
This is exactly what I was alluding to in one of my other posts... (glad to see it isn't just me, Sam). I have to say I don't exactly agree with Wingtips. While RM have been a bit variable, they are the exception - simply because they have the ability to basically cherry-pick the best players in the world. What other team can replicate that? I don't think this team has a "character" yet, other than maybe to win ugly? I do think that really successful teams do however develop some signature qualities in which they excel. Getting all these new players to "gel" into a cohesive team, where you can mix and match players and they all know how to fit in, even if they are in different positions from game to game is going to be the key.
Well, we can We’re in transition so we’re depending on individual quality to shine through today. There’s no doubt that tomorrow, there will be a character and style. We’re still figuring it out.
hahahahaha Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has been given a one-match ban for "unsporting conduct" by Uefa following his clash with Liverpool supporters at Anfield earlier this month. His ban lasts for one competitive Uefa fixture, meaning he will miss his side's home game against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday (20:00 BST).
