Is that the rule? I thought that it didn't matter whether there was an effort to direct it, if it touched an attacking player on its way into the net, it was whichever attacking player touched it last. Edit: I guess I am wrong. Interesting.
Oh damn... now that you mention it, you might be right. I might be conflating this with whether something is given to an attacker or given as OG when it deflects off a defender. This could very well be less nuanced than that. For good reason.
I think if any player of your team touches the ball before it goes in he gets it. The of target aspect only comes in when it's an own goal
So I went and read the rules and apparently it nuanced? It's not automatically Robertson's goal because he touched it last. Especially if the ball was on target already. But the thing is, if Robertson didn't deflect it, I don't think we could have guaranteed a goal because the deflection completely caught the GK flat-footed.
Very interesting! Anyways this game has gotten a lil sloppy and ref is really letting them play... most of the time at least. Think from here that probably suits Atletico.
I just saw a video where because the shot was going to be on target anyway, even though it deflected off a different attacking player the original shooter got credited for the goal. Guess we will have to watch the goal a half dozen times just to you know, make sure.
That's what I always thought it was, regardless of attacker or defender deflection. But needs to be on-target without deflection, obviously.
