Interesting how far back Gakpo is when we are pressing AV back in their half. Very different shape from the normal four high across the top with two mids further back. We’re only pressing with five instead of the normal six. And we take them on the counter.
What a performance. I thought the Reds were outstanding. 5 points clear of City. What a season this could be.
While I agree, I just don’t want to see Salah or either of VvD or TAA go on a free. One could argue that we shouldn’t overpay on contracts for players north of 30 years, but for sure we shouldn’t be letting these guys go on a free. My guess is that Salah and VvD want multi-year contracts and probably have lucrative offers from other teams. TAA is almost undoubtedly gone to Real next year. My guess is that the actuarial folks at Liverpool are saying that what these three are asking for are “too risky” or “too expensive.” But I still think if we watch all three go out the door next season with no transfer fees that is an enormous hit in potential transfer fees.
Why are the Reds so much better than everyone thought they would be? I think there are 2 players who go a long way towards answering that question. First, Ryan Gravenberch. The #6 was meant to be the weakness in this squad. Gravenberch has gone from a player on the fringe of the squad to one of the best players in the Premier League. Second, Ibou Konate. Last season he lost his place to a kid. This season there is no better central defender in the world. Ibou is dominating games alongside Virgil who is as good as ever.
I think TAA is the most likely to go. I think vvd will resign and hope Salah will stay. Losing TAA would be a big hit but the emergence of Bradley actually makes it the least urgent of our three end of contract probles
We just keep chugging along. Being top by 5 after 11 games is beginning to make us look the real deal. Walk on.
We still aren't getting our forwards chances - today was two breakaways - but it's getting better (see Nunez missed header).
