Goal! Szobo! Nyoni does well to play the ball forward to Dom. Dom plays it wide to Salah and Mo assist Dom for the goal.
Well if you can’t build up out of defense, then go route one and score! Salah with a great pass to Szoboszlai who puts it away past the keeper. Really against the run of play though.
Game opening up a bit. Nyoni is much better at quickly recycling passes and moving through the midfield into attacking spaces. Liverpool press is really very different from how Klopp was organizing it. You can see a lot more players actively moving to cut off passing lanes than I remember under Klopp’s system.
The tickets for this absolutely shit friendly with Liverpool missing half its players are near 200 if you bought on the initial sale. Near to the game you could probably get it for less. the organizers seem to not recognize that not even Americans want to see preseason friendlies at outrageous prices.
Quansah gets adventurous in attack and for a second does his impression of an attacking winger. Gets dragged down in the box, and if he was an attacker would have probably fallen down and gotten a penalty…
Is it just me or is the energy level really disappointing? I can't tell if I'm just judging harshly because there's a new manager.
Half…. Some growing pains with the new system, but we grew into the game, especially in the last 10-15 min.
Halftime. I definitely don't want to pick apart individual performances in the first preseason friendly. I'm more interested in trying to learn how Slot wants us to play. The formation can't be described as anything other than 4-2-4. I think that trying to implement a 4 forward system when four of our five forwards have not joined the squad yet is difficult. I imagine this will make a lot more sense with the likes of Nunez, Gakpo, Jota, and Diaz involved. And if this is how we want to play, I could see why we may even want to sign one additional forward. The stand outs in that half were Bradley and Nyoni. Bradley continues to look like a star. He is electric. The team got better when Nyoni came on. Really impressive from him.
Yeah - we’re gonna get punished a few times this season. But it is an unfamiliar back line. A few observations - understanding it’s preseason: - I’ve mentioned before, but Nyoni will be the next academy player to make an impact. - I hope Jones doesn’t revert back to dawdling too much on the ball. - I love that we’re pressing, but wonder if we have the players to do that effectively. - I dunno if it’s Slot’s tactics or that it’s preseason - but I think we’re better playing quickly rather than possession based. Easier to watch too. look forward to seeing Bajcetic in the 2nd half.
Well over Jones and have been for a while, don’t see the progression from the kid that burst on the scene. Nyoni for me the better talent and will overtake him in a year or 2. Don’t think Arne will be too concerned about tactics or who plays where right now with 8 first teamers still away, just getting the boys up to fitness.
Jaros replacing Kelleher in goal. Tyler Morton coming on. Don't think there are many other changes just yet.
We seem to be pressing when they get into midfield, rather than from the front. When the FBs get forward, they are cutting inside rather than overlapping wide?
Poor back pass from Elliott forces Jaros into action. Just about wins the ball ahead of the attacker. Quansah with a poor challenge is shown a yellow card.
Agree with the 4-2-4. Looked like a 4-4-2 as the wide wingers dropped back alongside the midfield in defensive transition.
