I just watched the 2nd game. While it lacked goals and excitement, I thought it was another solid performance.

The entire squad seems to be developing a good understanding of how Slot wants to play. This a very deep squad, and Slot has tons of options and flexibility.

For my sins, I watched most of the second game (all the second half). I’ve watched enough of the pre-season friendlies to get a handle on Slot-ball, so to speak. I think. Obviously not certain (actually pretty sure) I have all the nuances down. Anyway, my take.

    1. Players behind the ball at all times, fewer counterattacks against us.
    2. Controlled possession. Pass the ball in midfield in particular until the opening occurs.
    3. The press is deeper, it doesn’t automatically begin at the edge of the opposing penalty area, but it’s definitely a full press by the time the opponent gets to midfield.
    4. The midfielders are definitely part of the defensive set up. What is a 4 at the back becomes, very quickly, a 6 or a 7, as the opposition gets close to our area.
    5. The wings are important for wingers. If/when the FBs come upfield, they go inside rather than overlapping outside. Think this is more, let the specialists do their job.
    6. There seems to be more balls over the top from midfield into the box.

Obviously there’s a lot more, but that’s what has jumped out at me. Overall, Slot will be judged on results in real games, but so far, the players have bought into his philosophy and it seems to be working. A Yep! from me.

Obviously complete guesswork, but I think Elliott is going to be the breakout star under Slot.

I think it will be an interesting competition between Elliott and Szoboszlai for the number 10 position.

I think Elliott is better at receiving the ball in tight spaces and unlocking the defense with the killer pass.

Szoboszlai brings way more athleticism. He covers more ground, has the pace to run in behind, and is better at leading the press and getting back to help the defense.

I also wonder if there will be games where one of the forwards will be preferred in that role. Gakpo and Jota could play there, and I would also be interested to see Salah there.

I haven't watched any of the preseason matches so I am excited to see what the tactical changes will look like on Saturday.

he can also shoot the ball with deadly accuracy from central distance - which is a very useful asset to have
