Liverpool FC v. Bolton Wanderers, 3/8/03 [R]

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by RedKnight, Mar 7, 2003.

  1. Thread for tomorrow’s match.

It’s a "must-win" for the Reds, of course—but they all are from here on out.

    Liverpool v Bolton Wanderers
    Barclaycard Premiership

    NEXT MATCH

Liverpool return to the Premiership for a must win match against Bolton Wanderers. The Reds beat Bolton 3-2 earlier this season at the Reebok Stadium, but Sam Allardyce's team are striving for points in their battle to stay in the Premiership. Bolton earned a 1-1 draw with Manchester United recently and only an injury time equaliser denied Allardyce's men the points. Players for Liverpool to watch out for includes French World Cup star Youri Djorkaeff and Nigerian star Jay-Jay Okocha, but hopefully the Bolton team will be left worrying about Owen and co.

I have to work tomorrow and won't be able to provide comms.

In fact I won't even have access to a computer until after 3pm central. Not even "Red Flu" will get me out of this one. :(

Despite the injuries, we should be confident after the win last Sunday.

Can't underestimate Bolton though, they will fight for every ball and we can't play like we did against Birmingham.

I'm hoping we get an early one to settle us down and then we should win handily. Need to push for 4th place.

    Liverpool Team Sheet

    Line-up:
    Dudek
    Carragher, Traore, Hyypia, Riise
    Diouf, Gerrard, Hamman, Murphy
    Smicer
    Owen

    Subs:
    Dio, Arphexad, Cheryou, Baros, Biscan

As expected, Traore slides inside to replace the injured Henchoz, and Riise slides back on the left.

Not as expected, Smicer replaces the injured Heskey, but will play in his favored withdrawn role in the hole behind Owen.

As I wrote that, LFC begins its first attack. Free kick to LFC 35 yards out, but GK picks it up.

    Hunter says LFC looking slow.

After a weak start, LFC begin to take control of the midfield. Nice tackles by Jaime and Didi thwart potential attacks.

Carragher overlaps into the box but his cross is weak. On the counter, Traore stops Djorkaeff from going in on Dudek.

Djimi has made a few nice tackles so far.

Traore does well after Mendy gets past Riise.

Bolton threaten but the defense does its job and Carragher is able to clear.

Poor defending by Riise and Hyypia has to block Mendy's cross for a corner.

Youri sends it in to nobody, and it's cleared for now.

Damn! I have to go off to earn my loaf of bread now.
Funny how much I’ve come to enjoy this part of our board. As soon as I get home I’ll be back to follow the thread again.
It’s comforting knowing that I “Won’t hear the score on radio or TV” in the mean time…!!!

    Smicer offside.

Murphy brought down harshly at midfield. Yellow card for somebody.

Traore comes from nowhere and denies Simon Charlton a clear shot on goal.

Dudek makes a nice save to tip it over to deny Mendy. Another corner to Bolton.

Didi clears to no one. Harmless. Eventual goal kick to LFC.

The card was on Campo, btw.

Murphy wins and starts a break. Passes to Diouf, but nothing comes of it.

    Kop finally wakes up.

Diouf takes on two defenders but it goes out for a GK.
