well, seems we are in good positions for our 2 major targets(Champions league and Premier league)In the champions league,if we get a win against Deportivo,we will have a 5 point of a possible 6 of a gap with them,so they are almost Eliminated, and the battle will be on for the 2 places with olympiacos and Monaco. In the premiership,we are 9 points behind Arsenal(who just lots 2-0 with manu)and i really do se arsenal gettin into some knid of deprecion, dont think it will be a good month for them,so it gives liverpool chances of getting back into the battle for the tittle.(we are 9 points behind, with a game in hand, we should only be 6 points behind) I know its to early to be dreaming about this, but if we can mantain our curent level ,and our strikers do get among the goals,i see liverpool being up there with Chealski,ManU and Arsenal.
6 points. we'v eplayed one less game than them. get 3 points form that game, we're 6 points behind. walk on.
Meh. A bit of optimism wouldn't go astray around here in any case. Why not aim for the top and then see where we land?
well, seems that everything has changed over the last month!!!!Its sad to see such a great club like liverpool in such a dificult position so early on in the season!!we are 9 points behind everton ,and only with a game in hand!!!now have apeared lots of contenders for the spot in the champions league, like boro ,everton and bolton, but i think the first 2 are the real contenders !!!and even though we have the excuse that we didnt have any recognized striker , it doesnt overshadow the fact that we have been aufull in defence the last month or so,and theres no excuse there since all the defenders at the club are fully fit! hope we can actualy make an asault for the 3rd spot in Jan,and not lose to much ground till then!! i think we need more than a striker ,i think we need a CB and i would love to see another RB ,since Josemi is not good enough to do the job!Hyypia is getting to slow, and is not as efective as he once was!!!
I was never as optimistic as you were, and I'm not as pessimistic now. We are one third of the way thru the Prem campaign and not dead yet while we are still very much alive in the Champions League. Lets review the bidding: Due to the Euro Championships and other matters, we didn't get a new manager til half way through the summer. We had to beat off an attempt to steal our influential young captain. As we started the last preparations for the new season we finally get 4 new players from another country's league. We expect trouble bedding them in but they look good at the start. The first day one of them tears a ligament in his knee. Another turns out to be a journeyman at best. The other two look promising, but they are still having their up and down days. Then our leading goal scorer for the last three years ups and leaves on a cheap transfer after refusing to sign a new contract. You think we are getting over that when our captain breaks his foot and misses eight weeks. Then the promising young striker we bought for a record signing breaks his leg and will miss the entire year. The other young striker we have (the Golden Boot winner in the Euros) suddenly develops hamstring problems and starts to miss groups of games. Suddenly you are down to our fourth and fifth strikers (two kids with promise but no real first team experience at this level) and trying to play your wingers as forwards. But all is not completely bad -- we've discovered that our formerly adequate fullbacks are not bad as wingers and one can be a really good center half. Kids from the academy and the reserves have shown they have potential. One player every body laughed at has become a good central midfielder after a disastrous experiment at center back. Sooner or later our luck is gonna change --- so remember "when you walk through a storm hold your head up high, and don't be afraid of the dark, at the end of the storm there's a golden sky, and the sweet silver song of a lark, walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain and YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE"
Right it is a bloody soap opera ---Dream Team meets one of those awful Mexican novellas on Telemundo. And I couldn't resist the melodrama at the end.
I wouldn't mind seeing Finnan in the back for Josemi. But that will depend on getting a fit striker so that LGarcia can drop back to right mid. But with all our problems, we aren't in a bad position. We just need to get out of the group stages and make sure we qualify for the CL again.
Righto. And I need the tap in my kitchen to pour Miller Lite and two buxom women to fan me with palm branches as I watch Desperate Housewives. All four goals are achievable in theory, but will require comparable degrees of effort.
Going to take a miracle to get through this dearth of strikers with any chance of qualifying for Champions League next year. A Steven Gerrard inspired miracle perhaps.
well,it will realy depend on which strikers we get in the summer!!!even if we just get morientes i will be happy enough, since i still do think that with or without strikers ,the midfield have scored almost all the goals this year, aint i right????just belive my friend, just belive!liverpool still have the class to beat of sides like newcastle, boro and bolton!!i mean,if we would be injury free like those teams,we could even be up there with chelski!lets not remember that besides arsenal, all the matches that we have played against the top 8 team, have been away,so in the second half of the season all those teams will have to visit anfield, with a 100% gerrard and baros back!!!i expect to get a bunch of points from the 2nd half of the season!
Re: Liverpool Fc well, its sad to read sometimes when teams respect the ¨big 3(ManU ,Chalski and Arsenal)¨,and talk about us being at the same level as Boro,Newcastle,Bolton,Everton, etc! Its sad to see they dont have any respect for us any more This is what souness said 'The likes of Everton, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers will all be looking at the Champions League spots thinking they're in the box seat and that they do have a realistic chance - as do we. 'Given the pedigree of Chelsea and Arsenal, and perhaps Manchester United, then we may be talking about just one Champions League place remaining even at this early stage of the season.' http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=318140&cc=3888
Re: Liverpool Fc Souness played his part in LFC's decline but his opinion is accurate. Arse and manU have been the teams to beat for years and Chelski have obscene money to spend so ofcourse they'll be tough to beat. Frankly we have done magnificently given the events of the last six months.
Re: Liverpool Fc don't be taken in with all this same level as everton ,bolton and middlesborough crap , utter crap and any look at statistics would prove it ,we might not be in contention to win the premiership but we can definiately finish third ,it will be betweenb man U and liverpool for third spot mark my words ,there squad ain't any better than ours.
Re: Liverpool Fc think of it this way a bad liverpool squad has still won more than all the teams above put together . stop listening to the doom merchants.
Re: Liverpool Fc if we can take points of arsenal we can take points off anyway ,everyone knows it especially when they play us at home. They will just rather not mention it.
Re: Liverpool Fc The first part of our schedule was much weaker than what we have left. I would have liked a couple more victories perhaps birmingham at home and tottenham away. Injuries have been obnoxious and we have done well and still sitting well in all cups and leagues. We will know a lot more after the next seven days.
Re: Liverpool Fc I think as the season progresses liverpool will get stronger, raffas valencia team was known for its teamwork and fitness levels ,I don't think its any coincidence that liverpol have been gettin late goals ,or that our youngsters got stronger in extra time. we certainly know more after this week ,the european game is so important.
