I saw it last night at a preview. Man, this movie is great. Every character is interesting and developed really, really well. Won't spoil it but wait until you hear the grandfather's advice to the 15 year old boy....lol!!!!
Saw a trailer for it. This is the one with Steve Carell, right? Something with them driving in a van is all I remember. Looked good from what I saw.
I saw this a week back to at a preview screening. It was better than I anticipated. It almost has that Arrested Development screwed up family type feel to it. For music snobs, I think are couple parts are scored by Sufjan Stevens which really works well.
definitely felt like arrested development...lol. the music did sound pretty sufjan-ish (besides the obvious "chicago" part as they were driving towards cali)
It is a great movie. I really enjoyed it. First movie in the theater in a long long time I've felt that way about.
It was a great movie, though all the hype around it is starting to annoy me. But still, a great movie.
I saw it and loved it. I was afraid to post because I didn't want to be accused of snobbery after my pan of that horrific Talladega Nights boring piece of "censored." I loved the Alan Arkin character and Greg Kinear is great as the dad.
Toni Collette is a genius. We need to give her secret service protection, because we're lost if we ever lose her.
What I dislike about some of the reviews .... the ones that call it, to one degree or another, "contrived" in a negative way. Yes, and? Bringing Up Baby has long stretches of Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn searching the woods of Connecticut for a pet leopard, for gosh sake. Doesn't seem to harm it. For all the comparisons to 90s indie comedies and National Lampoon's Vacation, it feels like a 30s movie to me.
It is contrived, but you and I both acknowledge that, and since I know you like this movie, I think we'll both agree that the contrived plot elements were dealt with very, very well and intelligently. Anyway, I liked it quite a bit. Full review up on my blog.
saw it last night. Best movie i've seen since crash. and the first time in a LONG time i've left the movie theater not feeling like i've been robbed 10 bucks. it was worth every cent.
And, most importantly, they didn't botch the ending like so many movies do. The "dance scene" had me crying. What a great movie.
Would the Secret Service keep guard over an Aussie for us? But you are right about her, she's brilliant. She can move her face in more directions than Jim Carrey. Check out Japanese Story (2003). And don't forget Muriel's Wedding(1995). That whole beauty pagent scene was pretty scary, hard to believe they actually exist
I liked it,,,,found it very cute, a few laughs and at the end hilarious. While some people I know said it was "laugh a minute comedy", I did not find it so. Arkim was great, wish his role was bigger. On my 5 star rating....I'd go 4 stars
We stayed at hotel one time that was hosting one of these things. Except it was for toddlers. It's worse in person. I can't overemphasize how awful it was.
