Keeping Ceballos should be a priority it seems like.

It makes sense for us - we’ve dropped a ton of points because we can’t shut a game down. Someone assured in possession will be valuable there.

Given the circumstances, I’d do a guendouzi/Thiago swap in a heartbeat.

Also think the injury history is somewhat overstated. He’s played a fair bit the last five years.

    Last 5 years...
    42
    41
    32
    42
    36

I wouldn't have an issue with a MF that could give me that over 5 years

Seeing rumors today that Barca are the current front runners for Duezy (ie showing the most interest) but Arsenal won't talk with other clubs about him until the season is over.

Why wouldn't we start business now? Makes no sense.

Not sure. I've seen similar quotes RE teams interested in Laca. Wondering if Arteta is hoping he can fix the situation?

i haven't seen him too often but, if i understand assessments of his game correctly, he would be someone who would allow arteta to move on from xhaka*, if he wishes to.

*not that i am advocating either signing thiago or moving on from xhaka - only referencing earlier discussion on whether arteta was really looking to "build around" xhaka or if that was currently his only option.

yeah. i've always thought that was a big issue back when wenger was the ONLY voice. but sanllehi and edu should not need to wait on the arteta/squad beyond, "are you okay if player X leaves this offseason?"
not saying this is the case but, for me, that would be a different matter because arteta seems to/might have an interest in retaining lacazette. and he HAS been using him, unlike guendouzi.

with them, it would have to be a swap, right? it read like the pjanic/arthur melo was to balance barcelona's book (at least the incoming fund portion - unless that was ONLY to fix the supposed "incoming" money in the books and they don't have an actual issue with outgoing money). apparently, they have been, uh, "encouraging" a lot of their people to find a way out?

Possible. I think they have a few guys we work with on that though.

I mean if we had to pull a swap deal with Barca, there are a few guys on their payroll that we could work with.

    oh! yes! yes, indeed!

the list of people (from an article about the arthur/pjanic swap they made) they've signed (and not have fit in) - and the money total - in recent years is staggering.

Thiago would t want to come to a europa league side

it all depends on the formation we want as this xhaka and guen partnership has been great but xhaka may not suit a 433

what about a swap for tolisso? Gotetzka?

Goretzka plays a ton for Bayern, no?

The data posted earlier about Guendouzi was eye opening.

Gotetzka has been a monster for Bayern this season

Tolisso is a possibility. He has expressed a desire to leave. Not heard his name in several weeks but I would imagine he will be on the move.

Goretzka is going nowhere. He is German, chose Bayern as a FA and plays a ton for them.

That list is insane, but aside from a couple years Barca's transfers have been shockingly bad for a decade now. Wonder what happened to the guy in charge of that...

Pretty interesting chart on progressive passing in La Liga from Reddit:

    https://imgur.com/r/Gunners/zfKV3xz

Partey looks good here, but the real stand-out is Roca. If I had to choose between going for Partey or Roca I'd be going for the latter, based on this, his age, and that he's on a newly-relegated team

If I was making a choice I would go for Roca as well and use the extra cash for someone else.

Going after Roca and keeping Dani (another loan or permanent) would make a for a pretty solid 3 man rotation. Add 1-2 younger guys (academy or purchase) and you would have a good MF core.

Just read something that claims the asking price for Roca is likely to be around 20m euro

Saving the extra 30M you'd need to spend on Partey, plus the savings in wages, PLUS the six (?) year age difference, seems like a no-brainer to me.

Hell, if you can use that 30M saved to buy Thiago, then you're basically getting the best of all worlds
