Mark Lisi had a relatively strong group of supporters on the boards during his time with DCU--at least a strong and vocal group that felt he was our attacking mid of the future and a player with a future. Furthermore, some felt that the trade with the Spawn of Satanwas a huge ripoff with us giving up Lisi.

It's interesting reading the SoS boards. Their take seems to be that Ziadie is a nice catch (depending upon who you talk to) but that Lisi is either at the end of the bench or a waste of time and should be dropped outright. He certainly didn't contribute much to the SoS after arriving via the trade (unlike Ziadie who got lots of minutes). Very little expression of support for him, or a perception that he has any value as a playmaking midfielder. In any case, since Mathis appears unlikely to leave in the near future (depressed transfer market and a depressing season for him that certainly didn't build any foreign interest), Lisi isn't likely to get PT in the near future (if he's even on their roster next year).

Anyone want to offer their take on this situation?

Screw the lazy bastard. Let him rot on their bench and sulk his way into a part-time job at Sears.

First off, I always thought Lisi was too highly regarded.

In no way was he the third best player in the 2000 draft and I thought that Rongen and Payne took him way too high. Vaca, Suarez, Nelsen and Quaranta were all more highly regarded than Lisi was.

For a brief time, he made me look wrong as he began his career with a flash, scoring a goal almost instantly after making his MLS debut and playing well early in the season.

But as the season wore on, his lack of pace and defensive liabilities became clearer and his playing time - and productivity - declined.

While I still think Lisi can be a capable MLS player, somewhere in the Bobby Rhine-Sasho Victorine-Francisco Gomez level. That is, a player who is capable of starting and playing well, or making an impact off the bench - but not a star player who you build your team around and certainly not your go-to guy.

If they're that low on him, maybe we pick him back up for low draft pick or off waivers.

Of course, our recycled player record ain't that great what with Diaz Arce and Lassiter. Williams has been alright. Kamler was as good when he returned.

I think he's a guy who's got some skills, but maybe his personality doesn't mesh well with the coaches he's ended up with. For some reason he got in wRongen's doghouse and never got out. RH found him to be expendable, and there are plenty of stories about OZ's incompetence when it comes to building a team and leading it. Given a coach with the right sort of philosophy and style he could be a very useful player.

But I wouldn't expect to see him back here.

I would think there's a very good chance he'll get cut loose this offseason. The primary factor is who the new Scum coach, er ah, zoo keeper is. But with Williams and Mathis available to play that role (playmaking mid), with Lisi buried deep on the bench, you figure that someone who's your 18th (or 22nd) man should be making minimum and he no longer is. He's not even cap exempt (ala a developmental or P-40 player would be).

My guess is he'll get cut (unless the new coach is a fan of his or Mathis gets dealt--not likely) and sign for Colorado for the minimum. Hankinson likes him, El Pibe gets slower every day and he's from Colorado.

Well I like Mark Lisi, thumbing his nose and all. But like Sandon says, he was rated too highly out of college. I also think Sandon is right in pegging him in the Victorine-Rhine class and every team can use such a player or two. He's no a-mid and he doesn't play enough defense for the wing (or anywhere in midfield really). I'd play him as the 3rd or (more likely) 4th forward- extra offense at the end of games- just like he was in the first game of last year.

However it does seem that he needs just the right coach to unlock his qualities. The zoo in the Meadowlands was- is- 180 degrees from what he needs, and Hudson has no patience with players like him. (Namoff? ATC? Beckerman?) Possibly Hankinson is the right man for the job and if so I could well see Lisi scoring at a steady 6-10 goals/year clip as he has that poachers mentality that is nice to bring off the bench and/or spot start.

I think he could be a solid player with Colorado, after an attitude change and pay cut.

No thanks. After the kiss the Metrostars jersey stunt, he can stay there. I'd take ALbright before Lisi, at least he hustles.

I would take him back, assuming he would be an inexpensive acquisition, but I have to agree with Ursula that Hudson seems to have limited patience with developing players (Namoff was a castoff who improved through playing regularly in the A League). If Lisi is only as good as a Bobby Rhine, just remember how Rhine shredded us last week.

I never understood the Lisi hype and I always thought him over-rated by his supporters. However, even if he merited the hype, I still wouldn't want him back in a DC United uniform after his MetroStars jersey theatrics. If he loves that jersey that much he can marry it.

... and, in principle, I'm opposed to recycling players. It's never worked out.

Lisi got a nice hand from DCU fans when he entered the game here at RFK recently. And in fact he and Andy Williams looked as if they might slip one into the net while we were clock watching and bunkering.

Actually, if we were to sign Albright cheap I'd be willing to give it a shot. Why?

Let's see, he was played out of position under Rongen and never given a chance in Hudson's system. He had lots of potential coming out of college, and the physical tools needed to play his position well.

Can you think of another player like that and one that is still on our team? His name is Ryan Nelsen, and he has gotten some votes in another thread for MVP of the team this year.

Look, I'm not saying Chris Albright is a Nelsen calibre player by any means, what I'm saying is if he were to come back here for a lot less money I wouldn't be as objecting to it as some other people on these boards.

He might also be a little more relaxed around here now, playing on the field with his best friend Ben Olsen could help considerably.

I thought that Kamler's most recent tour of duty was good, and I kinda hope they can get him back in the offseason as a filler on the left side of midfield.

    So did I.

Hudson has traded him twice though so I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it unfortunately.

For all those who talk of certain players being "United Killers", Kamler is definitely growing into one very quickly. He had the GWG against us in the first game in NE, and in the 2nd he had 1 assist and a beautiful dummy that started another goal.

You know he would be an improvement over Lassiter though, at the worst.

BTW--Even with Sigi Schmid coaching him (I recall several posters mentioning that Fatboy would turn Albright into Ruud Van Nistlroy or some such optimism) Albright managed 1 point in 814 minutes.

Lisi had 5 points in 609 minutes.

This might be true in theory but somehow I think that Albright would be a cancerous presence and sap the skill out of other players.

You'll probably want to kick my ass next time you see me, but I'd gladly take Rocket Roy over Albright.

That's in league play, though. He continues to light in up in Open Cup play against A-League teams (he had 2 goals in the Gals' 4-0 win here over the Thunder in July).

So, if DC ever gets back in the Open Cup, if Albright were on the roster there would be no worries about early round upsets to lower division teams. ;)

I disagree, some in the crowd were applauding Tab's exit from the sport. I believe if you heard anything directed at Lisi it was DC REJECT or EAT ************ YOU JERSEY KISSING MF'er coming from 120, 133-136, 232, and wherever Rev chose to sit.
