They are saying Lionel Messi’s new coach at Inter Miami will be Javier Mascherano.

Judging by this interview anyway, he already speaks better English than Tata Martino or our own Matias Almeyda.

Yeah, and Tata Martino and Matias Almeyda both coached four seasons in the USA or MLS and they still can't speak a word of English.

Lock 'em in a row from 2 weeks with duolingo so that they can learn another language like TT :). BTW I read a short interview with Cade where he says his Spanish is getting better and I think he said he goes to a class a couple of times a week. Also says he loves his nickname "El Vaquero".

Maybe Mascherano wasn’t given an interpreter and so was more inclined to learn the language.

For his sake, let’s hope he doesn’t beat anyone 5-0 in the playoffs. :)

I saw this on the MLS discussion group on Facebook....

I haven't really followed also because I never heard of this Cup before but why such backlash that Miami is in this tournament?

I mean does it really matter if they are in it or not and who really cares?

Miami is not and won’t be MLS champ. This is simply a corrupt effort to cash in in Messi’s star power.

Yeah, they won the SS but anyway, they won't ever win this other , made up Club Cup.

They will be lucky to get out of their group.

Next year will be the 25th yr of the CWC in one form or other. Next yr's will be the biggest by far though.

    https://www.topendsports.com/events/soccer/club-world-cup/winners.htm

And of course intermiami won't win it. C'mon with man city, Liverpool, real Madrid, inter Milan , Juventus just to name a handful of teams. The usual suspects that challenge for the champions league trophy every year will be the finalists. I'd think any two of the four teams (RM, LP, MC or inter Milan) will come the two finalists just like it'll probably be this yrs champions league final which will be held a month or so before this tournament.

Those were nothing like this new upcoming tournament.

This will be the first time there are 32 teams as opposed to 7 or 8.

Those other cup games were more like exhibition matches but this will be different competition which will last a month.

    June 15 – July 13

    Teams 32 (from 6 confederations)

I'll be curious to see the B and C squads that arrive here for this made-up bunch of bullshit created to give Infantino a bigger head than he already possesses...

    Forget about winning it all.

Miami however, needs to improve their entire roster if they expect to become competitive and get out of the group.

Signing Neymar could be a start...

Inter Miami's plans to reunite Lionel Messi and Neymar in MLS, clarified by president Jorge Mas

Yeah, it just seems like another exhibition money grab.

I’m all for promoters making money with soccer games and all but both tournaments or Cups seem to take away the importance of MLS regular season matches...

The thing that bothers me most about Club World Cup is that the world doesn’t need a competition like that. Gianni only wants it because he wants to be more powerful economically than UEFA. Because of the Champions League, UEFA has 2x the revenue of FIFA. The Club WC could essentially get FIFA past UEFA.

That’s kind of cool that Brugman, Puig’s replacement and normally a sub, got the MVP for his performance and game-winning assist.

Why does Orlando get two venues and we get none?

Also, are they going to play on artificial turf in Atlanta?

    Audi Field D.C.
    TQL Stadium (Cincinnati)
    MetLife Stadium (NYC)
    Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta),
    Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte),
    Rose Bowl Stadium (Los Angeles),
    Hard Rock Stadium (Miami),
    GEODIS Park (Nashville),
    Camping World Stadium (Orlando),
    Inter&Co Stadium (Orlando),
    Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia),

They put it mostly in the East because the Gold Cup is at the same time in venues in the West. We get two venues in the Gold Cup.

Two western venues were included in the CWC because Seattle is in the tournament.

Unfortunately the MLS season is not that important. Just make the playoffs and it's like starting a new mini season!
NYRB won 2 of their last 20 games!! To squeak into the playoffs. All tournaments are made up. I just don't get the whole discourse of how competing in other tournaments takes away from the MLS season when most of it is worthless.

Yeah , I think they should make the regular season their number one priority.

I know North American sports is all about the playoffs but they really need to make the table count for something.

As it is, wooden spoon dwellers seemed to get rewarded from one year to the next and supporters shield winners like Miami this season or the Quakes in 2012 are forgotten.

Maybe if they transform this Leagues Cup into a Concacaf CL tournament or give more bonus money to the higher place teams, things could change and regular season matches will count for more.

Up until 1969 MLB didn't have a playoff system.
