It seems that there are periodic false reports about Iniesta joining Miami. Some in Feb, some in July, and now again. :facepalm I guess it generates clicks / $.
Messi is going to play 15 games and have more goal contributions than anyone else in MLS Evander and Lucho Acosta lead the league in goal contributions with 29.Lionel Messi has 28 goal contributions in just 13 games played. pic.twitter.com/4kWVtS6TAY— The Drive Pink Dialogue (@drvpnkdialogue) September 16, 2024
Best of luck! Honestly, I'm genuinely curious. Messi has always played on great teams with several other great players. What would happen if he played on a bad team? How much could he elevate that team and how would it affect his productivity?
Messi, after the injury, seemed to be back on his feet with the Miami 3-1 win over Philadelphia.... I still wish he came to the league 6-7 years ago but he remains levels above the rest of his MLS competition. It reminds me of the old NASL guys dominating in the old Peninsula Soccer League when they played for the San Jose Oaks against a bunch of High School and College players. It remains to be seen if they will win the MLS Cup but I don’t see how they can lose it at this point.
Meanwhile Ronaldo Al Nassr vs Al Rayyan attendance. 1 Billion bot followers but can't fill the stadium at home with 5000 people. This is killing me.😂🤣😭 pic.twitter.com/HXJSkagU8H— Messi Tribute (@MessiTribute) September 30, 2024
Not sure if this was for today's game. I can care less about the camel league but the game was on tv down here in S. America caught a few minutes and the stadium was 90% full...that must've been way before kick off?
Messi with 2 goals tonight vs Columbus, likely securing the Supporters Shield for Miami... still mathematically possible for them to break the all time MLS points record of 73 Messi has 17 goals and 15 assists in 17 games. Messi appears to be on the brink of leading his team to a Shield win on the field of their biggest rival. It is very hard for me to see the voters choosing someone else for MVP if this result holds. Just my two cents.— Andrew Wiebe (@andrew_wiebe) October 3, 2024 With Lionel Messi’s first goal tonight, @InterMiamiCF became the 10th team in MLS history to score at least 70 goals in a single season. pic.twitter.com/D92LRSIBcX— MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) October 3, 2024
Bills v Ravens regular season game last Sunday night had 22.3 million views. https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/week-4-ratings-mixed-bag-season-espn-nbc-fox.html#:~:text=NBC's Sunday Night Football game, and Adobe Analytics' streaming numbers. Well, they've finally reached the Quakes 2012 70+ goals club. Messi has 17 goals and 15 assists in 17 games. Messi appears to be on the brink of leading his team to a Shield win on the field of their biggest rival. It is very hard for me to see the voters choosing someone else for MVP if this result holds. Just my two cents.— Andrew Wiebe (@andrew_wiebe) October 3, 2024 While that's incredible production per 90, and maybe the highest G+A in the league, not sure that you'd give it to a guy who only played half the games (and his team was also quite successful w/o him). Maybe, not sure...
Messi is the greatest MLS Player the league ever had. One would argue behind him could be counted Chris Wondolowski, Landon Donovan, Carlos Valderrama, David Beckham, Robbie Keane, Theirry Henry, Dwayne De Rosario, Jamie Moreno, Marco Etcheverry and Mauricio Cienfuegos round out the top 10, in no particular order. Preki and Giovinco could be in the discussion. As for defenders, no ones better then Eddie Pope or Chad Marshall. Aaron Long, Walker Zimmerman, Jeff Agoos, Nat Borchers and John Doyle could all make a case for their respective time periods.
Yeah. This year for MVP I think Acosta has to also be in the conversation. 13g, 19a, and he’s played almost all the games for Cincinnati.
I’ve noticed that podcasts now talk about other MLS players in reference to Messi. E.g., some right winger is “the greatest MLS player at that position who is Not Named Lionel Messi”. So I propose the acronym 2NLM = “not named Leo Messi”. E.g. “Cucho Hernandez is the greatest attacking midfielder 2NLM.”
Let's face it. MLS broadcasters can't possibly. talk about Messi enough. And, "Jackson Yueill gets it, over to Espinoza, Messi, Espinoza hits it into the box into the hands of Maaretn Paas...Messi. Messi Messi. Paas waves his team off and puts it in the air. Messi."
Or maybe the MLS broadcasters are actually continuously calling the Earthquakes’ play “messy”? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
