From 1960 to 1970, downtown SJ went from a hustling and bustling place to a ghost town.

Same thing that happened to pretty much every urban center in the US not named Manhattan during that period...

    There's a Tim Horton's at Valley Fair?

In Japan, at least in the one medium sized downtown I’m familiar with, the malls are up and down, not out - several stories high. And it’s located at the transit center. Way superior urban design. Valley Fair is an eyesore. It’s all parking lots.

Well this has nothing to do with Messi, but while we're talking about SJ downtown (how'd we get here?), this should help a little bit - a new high school opening downtown around St. James Park. OK so it's a private school with tuition probably in the 10's of thousands of dollars but hopefully they give out a lot of scholarships? My daughter went to Notre Dame HS, also downtown but on the opposite side.

At 37 or 38 years of age, Messi in my opinion is way overpaid.

I don’t think there is any player in the world that old who should merit the contract he has regardless of what he accomplished elsewhere in the past.

For that matter, there isn't even one owner of any serious team and/or league in the entire world who would give Leo Messi the amount of money he is making in MLS.

That isn’t coming from me, that is a historical fact.

But of course, MLS, Garber and Beckham are serious bunch of characters........

    Give me a break!

Messi is not currently in the UEFA Champions League or eligible to be in the foreseeable future. Some of the other guys on this top 10 are currently retired. This is not evidence that anyone on the list is currently good at soccer or even still plays the game.

The Mas brothers also own Inter Miami...

Messi has earned his salary based off his accomplishments, his commercial name level and just who he is.

What people think on this forum, has less value then the toilet paper used when Messi whips his ass after taking a shit.

Your starting to reach for reasons to take digs at everything not Quakes related, especially when it gives you a little bit of gasoline to shoot at Messi. The list doesn't say anything about 'currently playing'. Its just a list of the highest rated players in the champions league since 2003/2004.

The list not relevant to the discussion of Messi in MLS. And you meant to say wipes, not whips. :)

Still way overpaid but it's their money and Messi will be done in 1 or 2 years .

MLS needs 27 not 37 year olds!

Also, when will the day come that the Quakes and Fisher acquire their second superstar?

I can't wait much longer as I won't be alive in another 10 or 20 years!

Messi sells more MLS merch then most of the league combined.

We did get a 'superstar' HLM, and he's turning out (this season) to be what I asked everyone, what if we get our shiny #10 and then he doesn't spike the needle? I was told he's fun to watch.

Messi is worth the money just from a commercial standpoint.

Yeah ok but he is still too old for me....anyway, I don't watch Miami's games.

Lopez is young enough but I don't think he will move many needles with the Quakes unless he gets more help.

What specifically is your issue with Messi’s performance in MLS so far? Despite his age, his G/A totals so far are among the best in league history considering the amount of games he has played.

And please, don’t reference Wayne Gretzky, it’s wildly corny and nobody cares lol

He can't without mentioning the NFL, Wayne Gretzky, Hatred of Don Garber, Hatred of MLS, AppleTV, Over Selling and Commercialization of Messi, Catering to Messi etc.

That sounds fun to watch, but I feel sorry for Julian Gressel. He’s been filling Messi’s role to some extent, and I don’t know how Iniesta will work, but seems like Gressel’s playing time and position will be significantly affected if both Messi & Iniesta are on the field together.

Gressel's a winger usually I think, or wide forward, and Iniesta is a CM. I don't think that's a one for one. Someone else will have to come out - not sure who. Busquets has been playing CB. Redondo is a CM, and then Yannick Bright has been playing in CM also. He'd probably be the first odd man out for Iniesta.

Just FYI....it's fake. Not sure we're Falvo got this from but I took it as a joke from him since he's against older players signing with MLS.

I got it from Facebook but if it's fake, then that's great and I'm glad.

Since the league’s inception, I've only seen two 40-year-old players, Preki and El Pibe , Carlos Valderrama when he played for the CRapids.

Preki was an MVP at 40 and Carlos, was just standing around in the midfield at Spartan Stadium when saw him play.

Those though, were the early years of the league but at least both players had been in MLS since they were 34 and weren’t looking for one last, big paycheck.

MLS must sign 20 not 40 somethings.

In Italy we say, “Largo Ai Giovani” or (Give) Room to the Young!

This is what I want to see more of.

I'm not sure why Iniesta is still (trying to) play tbh - he hasn't been able to run at all for the last 3 or 4 years and is officially washed. The writing was on the wall last year when his coach in Japan banished him to the stands and his team proceeded to win the league title. After that the best offer he found was with a terrible Emirati team which ended up getting relegated. I think it was rumored that Andres has lost a lot of money on his winery and needs the liquidity.
