True that. I tore a hammie many (25 or 30) years ago, and occasionally - at least until five or so years ago - during a cold winter HS game (usually December - late preseason game) I'd be AR, standing at the halfway line for five minutes or so when a long ball would require a sprint to the goal line and bip - it'd go again. Generally had a fist-sized bruise on the back of my thigh and it would hurt for about two weeks before I felt confident to run again. Fortunately, it generally happened right before winter break so I'd have a chance to recoup.
Not surprising I guess. AppleTV to be airing a "docu-series" about Messi's arrival and experiences in the U.S. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/lionel-messi-meets-america-apple-165014409.html
Lionel Messi: Chicago offers fans incentive amid injury doubt "The incentive: a $250 account credit "toward new memberships for the 2024 season -- or a $50 account credit for anyone unable to use the new member credit -- to all single-game ticket buyers who attend our match vs. Inter Miami regardless of which players are able to make an appearance on the pitch."
Watch the Quakes get in on this action. “Buy 2024 season tickets with a chance to see Messi in a home Quakes game (USOC, MLS Cup final, or Leagues Cup), and get a $50 credit if not!!”
Almost zero chance of Messi playing a game here next year unless it’s a friendly. The interesting wrinkle is Quakes fans get free ducats to away matches. Will they play in Miami? Will the free away match program be honored if they do?
I know. It was meant mostly as a joke to poke a little fun at the ever resourceful Quakes marketing team and the prevalence of Great Man Theory in MLS.
Funny how that works! BTW, don't know if it's going to happen but the latest rumblings are about Modric to Miami next year. 38yo but yet another great player. If it came down to it in terms of limited DP slots I'd dump Busquets for Modric. And then there's Puig, but he's signed with LA thru 2025 and I don't think LAG would give him up (even though I'm sure he'd like to leave LA and join Miami).
Just saw Mauro Icardi scoring the winner against Man United for Galatasaray… Back to the thread hypothetically , would Messi allow Miami to sign Icardi?
thanks for your concern there, Don. much like our Quakes, there once was a time when Manchester United was great. In both cases, seems like a very long time ago.
Chicago and Miami playing on football lines to accommodate anticipated crowd for superstar who's not playing. :facepalm Now huge crowd at Soldier Field forced to watch a regular Fire game.
So the cheapest team spends $33M (27M pounds) on player salaries. What does the cheapest team in MLS spend? Just trying to figure out the relative scale…
They haven't left, they're cheering their team, and their into it. This game is better then any Quakes game this year.
We've had some good games - against LAFC at Levi's and the Stanford games are always good, even if we've sucked in them recently. The big crowds make a difference.
Eh, they're ok, nothing super special, I don't even remember them. I remember older Stanford games more then the editions of the past 5 years. I do remember Chicharito clowning us real bad though last year lol. Im a terrible Quakes fan lol
The announcers are talking like it's an even game. Chicago has 1.3xG and Miami 0.04. But Chicago can't score. They are even a little more inept than we are. Edit: Well, there they go...finally.
Most dont care about the xg etc and its pretty even 1-1 game on lol Commentators aren't paid to be technical, they're paid to talk to massive moron audience.
