Poor kid. Just when he had started to play regularly after recovering from his previous injury, he gets another blow. Let's hope it's only a few weeks.

On a more general note, his repeated injuries bring into question his durability. I remember Moishe arguing that it was interesting to see whether Messi would stay healthy and fit to meet the demands of club and country. It is hard to tell, and I am no expert in injuries, but this is not an encouraging sign.

It's a damn shame. Such a great kid and such a great player, but he obviously has muscular problems and is injury prone. I hope for a quick recovery.

I heard he'd be out for 3 weeks plus an extra week to recover fitness, so around a month with no play for him. But they also said more accurate details could be known tomorrow.

Rotura en el bíceps femoral del muslo izquierdo was the description of his injury.

I share in Messi's frustration albeit to a lesser degree for obvious reasons but FFS already! Injury is part of the game but can he at least have one nice long run of fitness so we can see just how truly great he can be? I used to get pissed everytime Redondo got hurt but next to Messi, Redondo looks like an iron man fitness wise.

It broke my heart to see my lil Messi cry, he has so much potential even with all these injuries he has had, he's still kicking ass.

That might just be the saddest thing I've seen on a pitch. No one can ever say that this kid doesn't care. Poor Messi! Very gut-wrenching!

Yeah, it's a damn shame how Redondo's career ended. But come on, it's not like the players choose to get injured. But I guess the same god who gives some kids godly talent, often gives them also a high propensity for injuries. Maybe to keep them humble.

I was in no way implying that any of this is Messi's doing. My frustration lies in that every time he seems to be getting into some sort of groove he gets injured.

So it's 6 weeks, well this is crap news.:(

Fortunately he should be back in good shape for the eliminatories and later for the olympic games.

I agree with Perkerman regarding why didn't Rijkaard use him against Atlético, and this match which wasn't much of a hazard for Barça he decided to use him, true thing the risk of an injury is the same on any match but still.

This is a sad vindication of what I have posted previously in regard to Messi. Does anyone know if Barcelona are treating him any differently to the rest of the squad because of his GHD and the obvious problems associated with it?

Muscle tears are usually have little to do with hormones. While growth hormones do treat bones, muscles and body fat it is possible that Messi just may be one of those athletes that are prone to muscle tears. The deficiency is definitely a good scapegoat but it's hard to know for sure based on what the club shares with the fans.

I agree I think this has little to do with the ghd and more with lack of rest and his incredible bursts of speed and being fouled alot, I hope he is not rushed back I think this has been the case all along:mad:

I do not see how it is possible to disregard his GHD.

Re: Leo Messi news and Comments

Teso, I'm not so sure it's a matter of disregarding his GHD. Sport has a history of fantastic athletes without GHD suffering from recurring muscle issues. Matias pointed out the rest factor and you also have to look at muscle composition. Are his muscle fibers consistent for sudden burst of speed or does he have more slow twitch fibers that he tries to overcome. Of course this is pure speculation but it can't be discounted either.

His father has also discarded any connection between the GHD and the injury.

I don't see how that is even remotely possible. Do they know anything about the problems associated with GHD?

Are you a doctor by any chance ? Messi's injury is not all that uncommon in football especially at his young age when his body and muscles are still developing. Show me a proof that this is directly linked to growth hormones. I agree with the dad, too much bs getting thrown around.

Come on... did you even read what you posted? Seriously though you are showing a complete lack of knowledge towards GHD and the many associated problems that result from it. Go and educate yourself.
