Lineup Suggestions

Discussion in 'D.C. United' started by TheFarSide, May 21, 2003.

  1. With Nelson, Quaranta, and Etch out any ideas on possible lineups? I was thinking maybe..

    Eskandarian Curtis
    Stewart
    Dema Convey Olsen
    Namoff
    Prideaux Ivanov Petke
    Rimando

Read somewhere that Hudson was thinking of using three forwards, may start Curtis, put Dema at Forward, and move Stewart back to center mid.

The way DCU has been playing, the lineup should be all backups, with the main squad on the bench! There must be some unknowns, perhaps 3rd-string guys from the Richmond Kickers or even some local guys, who could do much better than DCU's main fielding! At the current rate, nobody will even show up to watch games!

So sad! Maybe a coach issue, that, or maybe the team needs to exorcized! Let's see how they do on the road for next game????? Without Marco, I believe they are doomed!

I honestly don't see the benefit of starting curtis -- he's always seemed to me like a better jumpstart off the bench, but I guess with tino hurt, if hudson wants to use three forwards, we don't have a lot of choice. so I guess up front:

    esky - dema - curtis

I'm assuming hudson would want 4 in the middle:

    olsen - convey - stewart - quintanilla

    which leaves

    prideaux - petke - ivanov

    oh, and rimando.

unless we have namoff/chino at mid for defensive support, but the way earnie and convey have been covering back, I think we'd be just as safe with them in the middle.

if we don't win either of the next couple of games, I'd be in favor of seeing carroll and stokes get some experience, although at whose expense, I'm not sure.

still no word on dante (the player, not the tagline poet)?

Not what I would do but I expect Ray to use:

    Eskandarian Stewart
    Quintanilla (Withdrawn 3rd forward)
    Dema Convey Olsen
    Alegria
    Prideaux Ivanov Petke
    Rimando

Isn't this a bit pre-mature given that 6 DC players have the chance for injury in the meaningless game against Wales?

DC United will be lucky if those 6 come back without one being out due to injury... :(

Ivanov sucks, Stewart is a winger, and Convey is attacking mid...

I think if they took Olsen out and played Earnie on the right the team would be successful. Start Ali Curtis up top, at least he is threat with his speed, that alone will kkep defenders honest in the back on other teams. Keep Nelson in the defense, he is too slow for D-mid, there is no spped in the defense, and it will be a problem throughout the season. Etchverry will be missed. Stoichkov! See Ya! He's done. Esko should sub for Curtis, and Quaranta should start with Curtis. Kovalenko on the left wing. Team needs a d-mid really badly. Someone that is Roy Keane type player, tough, fast, and energetic. Petke and Prideaux are both good defenders, and Alegria, forget it! Not really referring to next game, just in general.

I'm guessing donald sutherland in 'kelly's heroes,' but it's just a shot.

Put in Namoff instead of Alegria, and that actually looks pretty good.

    Digital's Lineup

What I'd like to see for the Dallas game:

    -----------Eskandarian----Santino-------------
    --------------------Stewart------------------

    -------------Convey-------------------------
    Kovalenko--------Namoff--------------Olsen

    ---------Prideaux---Petke---Ivanov----------

But even if a 343 is played, I doubt we'll see those players or that configuration. I'm more expecting to see:

    --------Stoichkov-------Eskandarian-------------

    -----------------Stewart------------------------
    Convey----------Kovalenko---------------Olsen
    -----------------Alegria------------------------

    -------Prideaux----Petke----Ivanov-------------

I'd like to see Curtis as our sub, with Eliseo get some minutes. But, I think that's a bit much.

have to say, digital, I like your lineup better than what you assume ray'll put out. I'd be pretty surprised to see stoitchkov actually start, but who knows. at this point I wouldn't be surprised to see ray send out Waterboy.

I hope it's earnie playing withdrawn against dallas behind tino and esky, either as a third forward or a-mid. barring major changes, (and I admit it's a long way off and ridiculous conjecture, but --), that's gotta be next year's lineup and I'd hope to see tino and esky paired for many years to come after earnie's gone (maybe in front of convey then). I figure we might as well get it started now. it's not like we'd be damaging any fine-tuned chemistry.

but what am I talking about... we're only 20% through this season....

I was very upset when he let in that weak shot from Preki last weekend. I realize that it was deflected, but he has let in some pretty poor shots. The first game against KC he was burned twice. Once when he missed a corner and the other time by a near post shot. From what I know about be a GK you should never let in shots on the near side of the field. It is a definite fau pas (check spelling). Also I do understand that he has had some great moments, but to me is slightly overrated.

That is an excellent line up. I don't understand why Dema is on the wings. He did so well for the Fire when he was allowed to attack up the middle. Also Chino deserves to start. He is very good at breaking up the other team's attacks.

You guys should start preparing for next season because this one is pretty much over.
The team you started with is not even good enough to compete in the league, and now you are left with those players, WOW!!!
I really feel sorry for the die hard fans, you do deserve better.
