He was certainly a blast from the past. I hadn't seen Lindsey Dean since he and Ray Hudson left GolTV's American Soccer about a year or so before that show eventually got cancelled. Oh, to have those two team up with Phil Schoen again for a similar weekly show (whether on GolTV, FOX Soccer, NBC Sports Network, ESPN, or even on a possible new MLS Network), but this time in HD. -G
didn't realize his showing had a positive merit last night. thought the thread was about him bringing down the intelligence of the commentary. so I'm guessing he had some moments to earn himself some fandom?
So during the storms in Kansas City last night I lost power and cable. Was at the game so it didn't really matter, but my DVR didn't catch any of it. I just got my wife to DVR the replay of the match and I've gotta say I'm excited to hear what the fuss is about. If this guy is as incredible as I've heard, I think we may have found Cal FCs new home announcer.
It was quite possibly the worst sideline reporting I have ever seen not only in soccer but in all pro sports. The commentators would ask him a question or would ask him to find out a certain piece of info and he would reply back with comments that had absolutely nothing to do with what the commentators had just asked!! And it got worse as the night went along..... Absolutely shocking!!
I can't put the finger on it why I found it so entertaining yesterday with his reporting. On the one hand, it was so bad, any of us on this board could do better, but on the other, it felt good seeing someone who was so at peace with his reporting, even though it was bad.
there were a few things that went into the love I had (and I'm sure this will related to others love) for Lindsey Dean. In no particular order The game was shitty as hell on multiple levels. The actual play, the production, the rain delay, the first goal (and sorta the second), the overtime, etc. So when he came on, it felt almost like relief from this supposed great soccer match we were being treated to It was late. I believe there is solid evidence that as the night gets later, the comic value of something increases. Truly one of the best inverse relationships of human history. He didn't try to get better. In fact, he didn't even seem to try. It was like they found some dude on the street, asked him if he had ever watched soccer, gave him a sideline seat and $20 and told him go for it. While it wasn't him who said it, it was so true - he was shakespeare and tyler perry wrapped in one (line of the night). The game really sucked ass The penalties sucked ass the goals sucked ass So when he sucked ass, it just seemed fitting - and as if he was trying to outdo them in such a bad way it was awesome Did I mention the game sucked ass?
He made the game better. He doesn't have the fake sportscaster voice. He doesn't have a know it all attitude. He just let if flow. I hope he gets on NBC.
In all Fairness to the sideline reporter.............. the two morons calling the game were most likely doing so from a studio in Florida. GolTV's former "B-Team" is now their "A-Team" and it's a shame. Those two made watching the Brazil-Argentina Friendly in June unwatchable, you have to watch the match on mute they are so bad. They sounded unprepared for the Open Cup match too. Dean was put in a no win situation, and it looked like he just said f*ck it, and rolled with it.
Only a step away from this happening. beIN has Schoen and Hudson already just waiting on Dean. Come on greatest soccer show in America!
