Jude is, by far, our best midfielder. He is giving it 200% every play of every game. I don't blame him one bit.

He's playing a CM in a 433 as opposed to a 10 in a 442, which accounts for his lack of goals. Today was the only time we played a 442 but we sat back.

 

We don't need him to score. He needs to adapt and become the team's creative force.

Mbappe is here to cover the scoring part.

 

I think it might be the tactics.

Personally, i think he's defending too hard. Carlo needs to save him for the creative part. He doesn't need to defend all the way to the corner flag. Granted, that means that Vini needs to defend consistently lol.

Of course its the táctics. A different style of play could have Is ravishing teams. The players just dont run at all.... Unless ITS to chase a loose Ball, sorry but this Is 100% on Carlo even igual the players aré the lunes playing. AND Im not saying he bad, as bad a we play we almost never get drummed on the scoresheet, thats always a positive, but I wanted to see 4-2 6-3 scorelines AND only way to achieved that Is to attack them at full force from mnute 1.

The players must understand that every team will come like Lile today and suicide on the pitch against us. If they don’t press and run more from the opponent’s, every game will be hard

 

The problem is that of Belli's many strength, he really isn't the most creative player ever. Not replacing Kroos was a massive mistake IMO. Calhanoglu would've been a good choice I think. Wouldn't have been mega expensive.

Yeah thats ridiculous to blame Jude. Jude is working his ass off. It's not his job to score. That role is rightfully Vini and Mbappe's. Cama, Tchouameni and Modric are ALL playing in 2nd gear.

Even fkin Adra Guler out-hustles those guys and he's an 18 yr old kid. Abysmal stuff from this impotent midfield. Kroos dependency in full demonstration.

 

Imagine firing your coach, who is the defend CL and La Liga champion, in October. That's some unhinged sh1t right there.

Now imagine the coach has also won 3 CL with the club, 5 total and won league titles in the top 5 European leagues, the only man in the world with those records and you think there's a line of better candidates out there. The internet never fails to deliver(horrible hot takes).

I don't know why Carlo is solelly to blame for some people. Florentino tried to fix something that wasn't broken when he signed Mbappe and sold Joselu, it was an upgrade on an individual level when comparing the players but it made the team weaker and took away a useful tool for the manager to use in games just like today's (and against teams like Atletico).

Eearly in the game around the 2 minute mark, Tibo playe a ball wide/lateral/square to Mendy trying to break the Lille press deep in our own half. Mendy with time and space failed to control the ball and it went out of bounds. This is Mendy, we've known this.

There were reports that Carlo asked the front office to keep him and/or give him a contract extension but I think Carlo's rationale was probably not that there aren't better LB's out three, but that Flo wouldn't splurge on a defender because he was happy with his shiny new toy Mbappe and Carlo was concerned that he might not get a better LB than Mendy if he asked for one.

To be fair Florentino has a history of neglecting the defense in favor of signing unecessary attacking players.

 

I dont know why you need to disrespect Calhanoglu. Best player of Seria A last season and a similar profile as Kroos. He would work great at Madrid.

 

I’m really curious if he could maybe tweak things back to a slight variation of the 442. We didn’t really give much away today (tbh partially Lille being shit).

Cama & Fede as a double pivot
Stick Arda as a RCM, in a Kroos type role albeit on the other side. We usually have Dani & Fede linking up on that side, so adding Arda as a link-up player might help transition the ball from defense to attack. Keep Jude on the LCM with freedom to move into the box.

Vini & Mbappe up top.

Mind you none of it will matter if they can’t be bothered and simple passes don’t make it.

I would never advocate for his firing before the seasons end but If we have a chance at xabi next season we have to take it

Rodrygo has back issues since the Derby where he was awful btw.

 

Sometimes you need a short term option. He can do the Kroos job at a high level for another 2-3 years. Better than not having that profile in the squad at all and struggling because of it. Its not like he would be especially expensive.
