I agree, if foreigners are going to be contracted I would expect national team caliber players. I think guys like Gignac are a good fit. They are guys who accept/embrace the country and are willing to adapt to the football culture.
Yeah and the teams with these caliber players tend to do much better: i.e. America and their South American national players. Maybe there should be a more stringent requirement for these players doing in, like having had played a certain percentage of games for the national team or something.
